What should be done to stop Iran from making the bomb? Will Israel stop them if the U.N. does not?

A weird as it may sound i think we should watch Iran closely but don't do anything unless there is a real threat, because I think they're just acting out of self-defense. I think that because they've seen as invade Afghanistan and we had a good reason for that, but they've also seen the US invade Iraq because of WMD. And if you look at a map of the Middle East Iran is right in between Iraq and Afghanistan.
So why shouldn't they think that they're going to be next, after all we have given them no reason to trust us.

And I'm sure that if some foreign power invaded Canada and Mexico, the US would start getting concerned also.

To stop Iran from making the bomb several things can be done, but they are quite drastic and have far reaching reprecussions. 1) Destroy Iran. Obviously this is a grevious human and global offense, but I am answering the question in a logical way, rather than a moral one. I personally hope that this does not happen, for Iran's, the U.Ss' and the world's sake, but it will stop them.
2) Do a 180, fully drop support for Israel and throw all that support behind Iran - probably alienating half the world but America is good at doing that it'll happen eventually anyway. We alientated plenty so far! This will probably only delay Iran's development of a nuclear bomb, because inevitably they will doubt our proposed friendship, in this example, unless we share that kind of power with them.

Israel will probably stop Iran from making the bomb, drawing the U.S., who has gone too far in supporting Israel to cut it's losses, into a bloody anti-islamic world war - if one hasn't already started. Who knows, the U.S. may not support Israel (but unless we actually support Iran instead, Israel will probably still succeed in stopping Iran unless Iran gets vastly more national support), but we have been in bed with Israel so much that short of attacking them, any other action will be seen as support one of kind or another.

Israel is alot more effective than the U.N. afterall the U.N. is full of countries that are all talk. They're too scared to get tough on anyone. I would count on Israel more than i do the U.N. Afterall it's not like the U.N. do it's little Oil for Food scam with Iran.

There's only one way to keep Iran from making the bomb.

Tell Iran we've had a change of heart, and are creating a Federal Task Force to study how to most efficiently give them the technology. Of course, the situation will have to be thoroughly studied by a few dozen governmental agencies. The EPA will certainly want to write a few 1,800 page reports which will then have to be vigorously debated by teams of scientists of various disciplines. Several hundred analysts will have to be consulted, and the issue will need to pass through various Congressional subcommittees.

Tehran will have to build a couple new hotels since U.S. Congressmen and Senators will invariably want to take a few junkets to Iran to hold bilateral meetings on ways to structure the analytical parameters of the scientific and environmental framework necessary to best focus synergistic resources that will result in systematic guidelines required to frame a comprehensive approach to the issues in general.

Just create a Federal program. That should forstall the issue for a few decades.

Israel should, but would not - they are fighting the palestinians to free their one soldier.

And Iran is anyway too big and powerful, unlike the palestinians.

So, it is up to the UN to postpone the inevitable. Making the nuke has become so easy now, that many countries can make the bomb now, and that will include Iran as well.

What has Isreal EVER done for us? Nothing in anyway major. I think Iran should be stopped, but not for Isreal... for the USA and EVERYONE else... not just Isreal.
