''I [was] asked who I thought the best player was last [season], and I honestly told them Steve Nash shouldn't have gotten the MVP. I thought Kobe should,'' Mourning said.

``That has nothing to do with my relationship with D-Wade. I love D-Wade like a brother.

``We have a great relationship, and statistically speaking and the impact Kobe had last year, I thought he deserved the MVP.''

MVP DEBATE

Mourning also responded to peeved Heat fans who criticized him on local talk radio shows after comments he made last week on Dan Patrick's ESPN Radio show.

Mourning told Patrick that he thought Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant -- and not his teammate, Wade -- should have won the NBA's MVP Award instead of Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash.

GORGINA!!! LOL!!

You have to respect his honesty...and statistcaly wise hes rite....withought kobe dat team would of been worst than da knicks...but u can also make a strong case for nash...he took a bunch of bench players and made them play like allstars and took them to the conference finals withought thier franshie plaer the leadgin rebounder scorer and defensive player and biggest and mosr expllosive player...datz why it wus so hard this year to decide on the mvp. I dont think u could of gone wrong with any choice honestly...they both made sum great impacts on thier team

dont agree, not at all... zo is 1 of the most goodlooking nba players right now and he is smart enough not to say stupid things like that. i mean that is just plain blasphemy for pete's sake...
hey are you sure he said that? maybe your just putting wordz into alonzo's mouth. i dont believe you if you dont have any links...are you one of those desperate lakers fans? coz you sound so much like them...pathetic that is...
anyway, it doesnt matter really, coz wade is clearly a better player than kobe and steve nash deserved the mvp award...nash just showed the world how mvp's should play, and that is to involve teammates and not be a ballhog or show-off, thats kobe's game, and it stinks...

i agree with gorgina that kobe sucks!

I personally hate Steve Nash, but i thought he deserved to be the MVP, he led his team to the playoffs without Amare Stoudamire and that was the reason he got MVP. I dont no about Kobe bryant, but i think lebron deserves it because he is a team player who carried his team to the playoffs and almost beat the most dominant team in NBA.

I completely disagree. Mourning is looking at statistics and Kobe in relation to his teammates. An MVP has great stats, but he also makes his teammates better. An MVP finds a way to win playing teamball while excelling in the system of play the team uses.

I agree based on statistics..

But the Steve Nash is a safer choice. They felt James was too young, Kobe has personal issues that would not be a good image for an MVP. Dirk did not really impose his will to lead on the team..

And also, Steve Nash was without Amare, yes he did have Marion, but he maximized Diao,Barbosa,Bell and Tim Thomas.. Almost everybody on the suns team played big because of Nash.. You cant say the same for Cleveland or LA.. But James and Kobe has done a tremendous job last year and watch them to race against each other to the top of the NBA in the coming years..

Nash got it by default. One year removed from all his problems, there was no way they were going to give Kobe the MVP, and they're not ready to start handing it to James every year yet either.

But after that championship series, D-Wade has got to already be the odds-on favorite for next year.

ok first of all steve nash has a better team with a mvp caliber player the matrix sidekick who are we kidding steve nash isn't a winner he couldn't win a ring in dallas he couldn't beat san antino two years ago with that super talented roster and he's a point guard of course he has to be a team player bkobe could do that **** any day but he can't beacuase his team isn't quite there steve nash is the poor man's jason kidd

Definitely agree, Kobe should have won the MVP. He carried a team that, without him, would have had like 10 wins at the most.

Nope. Kobe is not a team player, and his team didn't win in the playoffs. It's not only about individual performance, it's about winning and how you make your team better, not just chucking in buckets. Kobe is basically a self-centered a$$hole.

He's not a hater. He's just speaking the honest truth. The only other player as valuble to his team was LeBron James.
