I don't know about you, but without a little risk here and there I wouldn't want to be alive anyway.

Man have we ever become a world of cowards. Yes, motorcycles have an element of danger, but anyone who thinks they are TOO dangerous has a very distorted view of acceptable risk.
Living is dangerous, and you never know when you're gonna bite it. Ask John Ritter.
For all you know that fatal motorcycle crash could come the day before you get diagnosed with terminal cancer.

I agree with the guy that says to take the MSF course. I'm not advocating riding dangerously or taking stupid chances.

The people who remind me that motorcycles are dangerous are usually the same ones that get their excitement from TV. They're dead but not buried.

No, it's not humorous at all. Motorcycles can be great fun, but the fact is that riding them IS more dangerous than probably any other form of street vehicle out there. Not only do we riders have to pay attention to what we're doing, but we have to pay attention to what those around us are doing even moreso than if we were in a cage. Many people don't see bikers, we might as well be flying Wonder Woman's invisble plane half the time.
I can appreciate that some danger/risk keeps life exciting...and I ride because I enjoy it...but no, I don't laugh at the people that think bikes are too dangerous, I just try to educate them on the fact that while danger is there (and moreso than re: other automobiles) that many of us are educated riders, and didn't just hop on our first bike and blast out into traffic.
I think everyone should take an MSF course, even if they don't ride, just so they can appreciate what bikers are dealing with when they are sharing the roadway...I think it would make cage drivers a lot more aware and respectful of bike riders.

No, it doesn't make me laugh. Motorcycles are dangerous unless someone is experienced and takes the appropriate safety precautions. It is not just about the driver, but the other drivers who are not really trained in navigating the road with motorcycles (or big trucks for that matter). My cousin's husband wears leg braces now and will never have full function in any of his limbs because of a motorcycle accident. What good is a huge settlement if you can even get around to spend it?

Motorcycles ARE dangerous, and it's no laughing matter that more and more motorcycle riders are hurt or killed every year. Does that mean I'm going to stop riding them? Hell No! But I am a more cautious rider now than I was forty-five, or even twenty years ago.
Back then I thought I was invincible and was going to live forever. Now I know I'm not. (Broken bones and a few restorative surgeries can do that to you.) I still ride every day that I can, but maybe a bit slower and I give the cages and heavy trucks a bit wider berth than I used to...

Motorcycles are not dangerous, it's the (inexperienced) rider. It is also the morons that cut out in front of bikes all of the time.
I highly recommend taking a Motorcycle Safety Program which teaches you how to avoid accidents. Here in Pennsylvania it is free for anyone to take the course. All you get to get in is a valid motorcycle permit.

No... I think motorcycles are incredibly dangerous. Why on earth would it be safe to drive around at speeds of 30 mph or 50 or even 80 without any metal around you, except for what you're sitting on. One slip on the road and you're traveling without any protection at 80 mph!!!! What makes it worse is that alot of motorcycle drivers I see on the roads (even on the highways) do not wear helmets. Do they want to die????
I cringe every time I see a motorcyclist. I am afraid for THEIR lives!
Don't think I'm some old, conservative man. I am a 22 year old with alot of testosterone. I just know how to be sensible!!

Motorcycles are dangerous mainly because of the people in cars making stupid mistakes or simply not seeing you. I love riding. I've had 2 crashes but I will never stop. It puts a big fat smile on my face, and I will never give it up.

Oh, yeah. It makes me chuckle. They think they're gonna live forever. And what a boring, bland, unexciting forever it will be, too.
They have forgotten (or chosen to ignore) that nobody gets out of this game alive!
Me, I'll take my chances. This is not to say I don't ride carefully, or wear a helmet, gloves, leathers, boots, etc., and don't keep a weather-eye out for those idiot cagers, but still, the amount of danger is worth the reward.
Getting there CAN be half the fun.
And you're absolutely right!
Live like your alive!

It does make me laugh when people say motorcycles are dangerous. When I ride mine to work,I get to the parking lot, find a space, put down the kick stand and go to work. After work I return to find my bike with no injured or dead people anywhere near it.Therefore, the MOTORCYCLE is not inherently dangerous.THINK about it!

Laugh? No way, it keeps me humble. I mean, I realize that is a risk we take each time we straddle the mighty beast. But I never get sick of hearing the voices of reason "be careful", etc. But having said that, bring on the excitement!
