it's Zidane, and yes he still is a great player.
He just showed that he is human, like the rest of us. He makes mistakes just like everyone else does.
No matter what he did, it doesn't change his soccer skill. He's a great player who had a wonderful career and all he did was make a few mistakes. Why shouldn't he be able to do something wrong? He's not perfect, but his talent at soccer is pretty close to perfect.
Zidane is an amazing player. He led France to the 1998 World Cup and deserves credit for his outstanding career.

Of course Zizu is still a great player,I presume you are referring to the headbutt in the WCF, one hot headed action cannot take away the level of mastery he has shown in the beautiful game over many years.
Something for you to consider...
If we are to believe the reports of why he reacted in the way he did, then I believe in many ways he should be applauded. He ran the risk of losing lucrative contracts and negative press which would have affected his future career simply because he put the honour of his family above some idiot who thought it a good idea to wish all his family died horribly (the day after Zizu found out his mother was seriously ill) The game would be so much better IMO if some players put it in context, having said that violence is never the answer.

Of course! He played top level throughout his career. But that head butt was just a dumb thing to do, especially in the Finals and especially in your last professional game before retirement. Sort of like Mickey Mantle or Willie Mays playing in their last game and on the way back to the dugout they club a fan for a yelling out a stupid comment. No one will ever forget that. He was exhausted, fustrated, totally wired ( as it was the finals ) and it was the 2nd OT. Not an excuse but it happened and that's probably at least partially why he did it. He lost it. But still a great player.

(Zidane)

He was one of the worlds greatest players. He brought a great deal of amazement and happiness in the game. One action doesn't take that all away. Zidane is still a great player. (apart from the fact that he's retired now I should say Zidane was a great player).

How to define great player? If defined In spirit, skills, trophies..

YES
YES
YES

I can accept the 1% error for the 99% of other goodness he did.
Especially if that 1% happens to be emotional.

His skills are so much a class of its own and unreachable by the rest that it seems there's no way to surpass him, unless you tap into that 1%

Zidane was voted the best Euro Footballer of the last 50 years! He is and will always be known for his superior dribbling and playmaking skills. Everyone has ups and downs in their career, unfortunately the devil aka Materazzi got to his head and tried to bring Zidane down with him. In my opinion the greatest midfielder, if not footballer, of all time. Keep your head up Zizou, and my fellow FFF fans! The truth will be revealed and Materazzi's shameful football career will be over in an embarassing manner!

Merci Zizou, pour tout que tu as fait pour le sport qu'on adore tous! Aie une bonne retraite!

zidane has had many moments in his life which will be remembered for his talent rather than his red card(s), champs league final against AC milan any1?

viva la zizou!
