I was wondering if there was, because I thought I remembered reading about an a anime before the regular Rurouni Kenshin where it tells about his father and about his manslayer days or something like that. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, or was this made up or something? Please reply!

It's an four-part OVA that takes place about 10 years before the anime series. It focuses on Kenshin's past as the Hitokiri Battousai and his relationship with Tomoe. You should watch it after you finish watching the anime series. If you would like more info, check this site out- http://www.hachi-roku.net/shinta/ver7main.html

If possible, read the manga as well since Enishi [Tomoe's brother] won't appear in the anime.

Yep. If you're referring to Rurouni Kenshin the anime, then there's a BIG story behind it. There's the OVA aka Movie called Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal, it talks about how Kenshin got his cross-shaped scar and a lot about how he became a Hitokiri aka Assassin. You can check out a lot of more info. at www.the-oro.com! I've been a BIG fan of Ruroken for a long time, so if you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me and ask! ^__^

Dont watch Samaurai X first, or it will ruin everything for Rouroni Kenshin, its all about Kenshins background and past with Tomoe.
