I have always wondered what makes these terrible things. Then it dawned on me that it could be natures way of controlling the population of the planet or a densly populated area. Just a theory. What do you think?

There is some truth in what you say but the main way nature controls population is by disease and food shortage. There was a behaviour study about rats called Metropolis. There was a group of rats who were kept in isolation an fed very well. They had a good life were contented and they bred copiously.
Then the scientists started to withdraw the food supply and the hunger came. The rats started to fight and kill each other and started to practise cannibalism. Disease also started but these other symptoms were first. Is this starting to sound like a society we want to live in?

Well, serial killers are not effictive in population control because even the best of them do not kill vasts numbers of people.

But war definitely reduces population.

Hate is a different issue entirely, even if it ties in with war.

Human nature is inherently evil. We're born evil. That's why those terrible things happen.
