As per reports, it seems, that Materazzi has insulted Zidane ('as son of a terrorist whore') on purpose. This I consider is more heinous a crime than Zidane headbutting him on the chest & deserves more stringent punishment. Tripping, heading, punching the nose of the opponents are too common but calling names is not.
What's your take on this?

How about you take it as stupid words spoken by someone instead of getting your panties in a knot and taking it seriously. If you let things like that hurt you then you have no place being in a sport. Stop trying to say Zidane is some victim, he intentionally headbutted Materazzi when he could've walked away and kept playing. I wouldn't punish Materazzi for what he did, it's a sport and things will be said out of the pressures of the game, especially the finals. And i'm pretty sure calling names would be common in sports. It's not like you could hear what every player is saying during the game.

That is not totally true as on a conference that took with a public annoucment of Materazzi that he admited that he did insult him, but denies that he called him a "Terrorist". Materazzi said he only grabed onto his shirt for a few seconds, and in a sneering voice Zidane answer, "If you really want my shirt, I'll give it to you afterward.". This is where Materazzi did insult him, resulting in Zidane headbutting him in the chest. Although i am not saying that it is not true, that Materazzi may have called him a "Terrorist", but this came from a briefing from him. FIFA has also stated that they will investigate the matter further.

Materazzi DID insult Zidane but not what everyone is saying he said. he was probably talking trash like you do in all sports. if that's the case i dont recomend a punishment. alco19357 Zidane's parents are Algerian, not Italian. Zidane Played for an Italian club that's probably how he knows it

in accordance the Austrian ORF (television broadcast), the English father or mom - i ought to not make certain it with the help of reading its website - wrote that there are rumors that Materazzi called Zidane a terrorist... with the help of how, it type of feels that this replaced into the first time that a video data replaced into considered as no between the referees did genuinely see what had got here about to Materazzi... I vote for repeating the finale ;o)

Zidane is an idiot. Plain and simple.

What Materazzi said isnt important now that Zidane did that.

As far as punishment, I dont know....being American I tend to believe in freedom of speech, right or wrong.

All that matters to me is that France lost, albeit to the team I hate ALMOST as much.

Whens the wrold going to be right, and have the Dutch when the Cup????

If it is true that materazzi did make racist comments then he needs to be suspended for however many games from international play. The same goes for zidane. Since zidane is retiring, he cant be suspended from playing but he can be suspended if he ever comes back to coach.

I hope they hold a parade in his honor. All those people who think that Materazzi deserves some kind of pinushment because little baby Zidane couldn't control his rage are absolute idiots and sore losers.

Viva L'Italia!

He should of walked it off, then scored a goal, what better comeback than FIFA Champions? I mean, that was a stupid move on Zidane's part, headbutting? He was one of the star players, who knows how the outcome of the game would of been had Zidane not headbutted that guy? Oh well, still glad Italia won, GO ITALY! (Im from Spain though, cant beleive we lost, oh well, Barca is still the best)

Zidane should take the stupid Materazzi to court,so that he can tell the whole world why he called him that.
I don't blame Zidane at all for what he did.

I'm not European, so maybe the standards are different, but where I come from physical violence is way worse than words.

When did the world become so overly sensitive? Couldn't Zidane just ignore the words? Is it common throughout the world that every time someone is offended they just head butt someone, or punch them in the face?

It all seems weird to me that cheap insults are justification for a physical assault.
