I have a very feminine speaking voice, and when I sing, it sounds feminine, too. But I have a much easier time singing songs by men, or along with male singers on the radio, than I do with songs by and for female singers. What gives?

This is a common voice technique problem, the answer is: You don't know how to use your high register... You can fix this Problem with voice technique lessons.

Many women are Belt Singers, they don't know or they are not able to use the high register in their voices. This is not impossible to fix.

With the right technique you should be able to develope your high register and learn how to use it correctly.

If you really want to sing I would recommend you to find a Voice teacher and start working with your voice before you hurt your vocal chords.

Bad technique, bad habits and wrong use of your vocal chords can cause a lots of vocal diseases.
So, becareful.

A feminine-sounding voice doesn't have to be high pitched. We all have ranges in where we sing most comfortably. Maybe the female singers you're trying to emulate are just singing in a range higher than you. Do you find the same problems when singing along with say a Toni Braxton, Sade, or Gloria Estefan? Possibly, because just because they are lower ranged doesn't mean they are in your comfort zone either.

If you have access to a voice teacher (school choir, church, etc) just ask them a quick favor, to help you find your range. They can also help you find the best key for your voice as well. If you're lucky, they can point you to a pop star (or whatever music you prefer) that is sings in the same range as you, and then you will have someone you can practice to.

Oh my gosh! That's the same problem I have... Every time I sing an R&B song by a guy or guy group people say I have a nice voice, but it just sounds different when I sing songs by girls (it still sounds okay, but not as good)... That's weird, maybe we need to stretch our vocal cords, don't ask me how.

You do so know what gives!

You have a tiny larynx (interior of the throat where the vocal chords resonate).
This small chamber creates a higher pitch voice.
But wherever your body is small, it is made up for in size elsewhere.
I believe the size is compensated by your inner confidence.
Males usually have a big, confident quality to their singing, while females may be more prone to focusing on finesse and style.

That was a tough one, but I hope I nailed it for you.

Im the same way, its just the tone that your ears pick up.

Its easier for you to pick up and listen to lower pitches, your ear may tune up as time goes on but until then just be happy with what you've got, many girls cant sing tenor!

[my vocal teacher taught me that because I asked lol.]

Paula & Simon made a "Singing" Tutorial. It's kinda expensive at $125.00 USD, but they do teach the basics of voice training.

i had that problem before but i was told that it was because u r not comparing ur voice to a girls voice when singing with a guys voice. with any other girls voice but ur own they have different pitches that are not as easy or comfortable for u to hit .

Perhaps you're an alto, and you have an affinity for songs sung by tenors. I'm sure that a music teacher at your school would be of help.
