I know it hurts right now. Go ahead and have a good cry and a good mad.

Then thank your mother for watching out for you. A lot of kids don't have parents who care enough to protect their children from real or imaginary threats.

Remember too that you are the kid and she's the Mom and sometimes you're going to clash. In the end, it's her house and her rules. She has to do the parent-thing. And you have to do the kid-thing. And sometimes it sucks.

Then get offline for a while and meet some neat guys in person!

Sorry, in this day and age, with cyber-predators running about seducing young girls and kidnapping them, your Mom is taking the steps she feels she has to to protect you.

If it's her computer, her Internet account and her house, it's her rules.

I suggest following her request and then trying to work on a compromise.

Perhaps if the on-line friend is close to your age, and speaks with her, she'll change her mind and lower the restrictions. But time and good behavior will tell.

thats why you should just meet them off of the internet, ya know like where ever you live, that way your mother can meet them and feel better about who you are with, most mothers dont want thier kids dating on the enternet cause they know there are lots of bad people out there that lie and make you think that you are your age and things like that, and then they kidnap and rape kids too, so your mother has every right to be scared for you and deny your the acess to the on line dating thing. so i would just drop it and find a nice boy from school or something, stay safe.

Are you underage? Don't talk to strangers. Haven't you been reading about stalkers and rapists who first contacted girls online? Get off the computer and go see a movie with friends. Have a soda. Go play.

Are you kidding me? Not unless that online friend is someone at school that you know then your mother was right. There are a lot of online predators and you should be careful of who you talk to and exchange information.

erm...
it's your fault
your mother is merely trying to protect you.
it is never a good idea to speak to somebody online when you don't know them in person.
and no, I'm not a hypocrite, this mode is safe, through these forums, as nobody gets your email/ IM unless you give it to them...
and you shouldn't do that...

NEVER
NEVER
NEVER
give somebody you only know from online personal information...
e.g. name, date of birth, city...

yes that's personal. if you give me your name and school I can find out almost anything about you I want.

I'm serious.

I've seen it done.

with a very secure school.

understand?

your mom mererely did what was best for you.

thank her!!

I know its irratating, but you gotta understand your mom. She just wants to protect you from predators online. Try to set up a meeting with this guy in person (without telling your mom 1st) and introduce him to your mom then. (and carry pepper spray with you just incase)
