No, Materrazzi should not be punished. Insults and slurs happen all the time in ALL sports. Can you imagine if a hockey player got whacked over the head with a stick every time he says something "insulting" to his opponents? Its time to stop this whining, and for Zidane and the rest of France to stop acting like crybabies. I think what really hurt the French was they got to see the world cup trophy but not touch it!

Well under fifa rules if it was racial slurs Italy can be forfeited the world cup . But that is at the most extreme case. If it is true usually a 2 years suspension is handed out.

Words are just words. People these days are too concerned about words. It's like the entire world has gone super macho. So if someone insults me on the street, I can just go ahead and punch them in the face?
It soccer already has rules about it, then he should be punished if it's proven. But in general, people need to stop being so sensitive.

I think that zizou is guilty for head butted materrazzi, but that is a human nature due to materrazzi insult to his mother and sister and also racism issues , materrazi also must be punished by FIFA because of his unsportmanlike behaviour.
