None is best. You have to keep up to date with whatever is good. Check reviews and MAKE THE SWITCH when others are reviewed better. Check www.cnet.com You can and should have a combination of Anti-spyware solutions.

Keep your own Anti-virus up to date, and check the status regularly.

Get and update several Anti-spyware solutions. I use AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destroy. I use the free versions from http://www.download.com Update and run these regularly. Especially IMMEDIATELY after an upexpected pop-up.

Download and install FireFox free from http://www.mozilla.com This is a browser that is safer to use than IE. Use this for general surfing and google searching. Only use IE when you MUST have IE, such as Windows Updates.

If you have Windows XP with SP2, activate the Windows firewall and check the status. If you don't, get Zone Alarm the free version from http://www.zonelabs.com

Take these steps to keep your computer ALIVE.

Antiviral. (free)

AVG free. Excellent protection available from: http://www.Grisoft.com

Don't use two antiviral products together as they may be incompatible. If your Antiviral trial has run out, then remove product from your computer and get the AVG installed.

Anti-spyware (all free)

Essential products are: Adaware SE from: http://www.lavasoft.com

Spybot SD http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

Spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Windows Defender - from Microsoft downloads.

PC starter kit at download.com 20 of the best recommended programes for people new or less advanced in computers. Check all three pages, at bottom see Security/Tools/Fun

http://www.download.com/PC-Starter-Kit/2001-12350_4-0.html?tag=dir

C Cleaner.http://www.ccleaner.com/

This will tell you a lot about what is on your computer, such as running programmes, cookies, History, settings etc. and will help you clean up and remove unwanted items. Be careful how you use it as it is a very powerful programme and you should read the help index before you do anything with it.

If you want to pay then Spyware Doctor is by far and away the best. Excellent free antispyware is Spybot Search and Destroy or Ad-aware.

Spyware doctor is good, it helped me clean my system of mal-ware. Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy are the best ones that are free. Also, www.trendmicro.com has a free spyware scanner that will also remove anything it detects.

what is it with norton, just because they were one of the first anti-virus producers, dosent make them good
spy-bot avalible from http://www.safer-networking.org/,is the best free spyware program you can get, apart from cleaning your computer of spyware,it also protects it from any future attack of spyware, just remember to keep it up to date as it hasent got a automatic updater like most anti-virus programs
combine this with either adaware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/,or windows defender from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=435bfce7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&DisplayLang=en,and you will have a excellent security package with your norton, bare in mind, you can still use your norton anti-spyware as spyware programs dont conflict each other like anti-virus
good luck

Adaware and Spybot

The combination of both is best and isn't a resource hog like Norton.

I agree with Adaware and Spybot S&D for protection. To help you cure insidious, real tough infections, use HijackThis!. (Warning though, it requires advanced knowledge or support from a knowledgable expert or support site.)
