BBC Sport:

<<< Materazzi himself has not spoken publicly about the incident except to deny a claim by Paris-based anti-racism group SOS Racism, made on Monday, that he had called Zidane "a dirty terrorist".

"It is absolutely not true, I did not call him a terrorist. I'm ignorant. I don't even know what the word means," the Italian news agency Ansa quoted Materazzi as saying after the Italian team returned to Rome. >>>

Frankly, do you believe that, Meterazzi, a man of 33, and a father of a 10 yr-old daughter, actually said that he didn't even know what the word 'terrorist' mean!!??

Either he is a liar, or he is a dunce.

VAE VICTIS

It is very easy to defend Materazzi, to the point that I feel I am almost wasting my time --

First of all it is very noble of him to admit he provoked Zidane, everyone is saddened to see a great champion making a fool out of himself and ruining forever the image he had. Materazzi could have just avoided all comments, since all sort of things are said all the times on a field..do you guys really think Zidane doesn't curse?

In any case what we saw was a man physically aggressing someone and that is unforgivable, it is absurd to investigate the victim instead than the aggressor. - We are not even speaking about a kick or anything that could in any way be assimilated to the game!!!

too bad for Zidane - he will never get rid of this shame, but it's not the first time he does stuff like that so he definitely got something he deserves - Have you ever seen Ronaldo or Ronaldino doing stuff like that?

Anyway Italy is champion and that's what the French SOS racism guys are mad about - Too bad, I'd say they should have more important things to worry about -

OF COURSE HE IS KIDDING THEY ARE ACCUSING HIM OF SOMETHING BASED ON NOTHING!

Zidane simply descovered the Italian defense is not that of Brazil - France only scored on a VERY ambiguous penalty.

Domenech is right for once: materazzi is the man of the game!

Tue 11 Jul, 3:20 PM
ROME (AFP) - Italian defender Marco Materazzi has for the first time acknowledged that he "insulted" French player Zinedine Zidane because he was super arrogant in the World Cup final, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported.
Zidane, 34, floored Materazzi with a headbutt to the chest in the second half of extra-time in Sunday's final and was sent off, missing a penalty shoot-out in which he would have been expected to take one of France's spot-kicks.
"I held his shirt .. for only a few seconds, he turned toward me and scoffed at me, looking at me with super arrogance, up and down: 'if you really want my shirt, you can have it later.' (Zidane said) It's true, I shot back with an insult," Tuesday's paper quoted Materazzi as saying.
Asked whether he had insulted Zidane's sister or mother, Materazzi said, it was an "insult of the kind you will hear dozens of times and that just slips out on the ground."
"I certainly didn't call him a terrorist; I am ignorant, I don't even know what an Islamic terrorist is; my only terrorist is her," he said pointing to his 10-month-old daughter who was sleeping next to him on the plane that took the Italian team back to Italy.
"I certainly did not mention Zidane's mother; for me a mother is sacred."
In recalling the incident in Berlin's Olympic Stadium, the newspaper Corriere della Sera said that Materazzi lost his mother when he was 14 and that he would certainly not have insulted Zidane's.
The French player's agent had said Monday that Zidane's World Cup final assault on Materazzi was provoked by a "very serious" comment made by the Italian defender.
The former Real Madrid star's moment of madness in his last match before retiring may have been provoked by Materazzi calling his sister a prostitute, according to a report on Brazilian television channel Globo.
Fantastico, a programme on Globo, employed lip-reading experts who said footage of the incident showed the Italian twice insulted Zidane's sister.
The programme claimed Materazzi made the same comment twice before then using a "coarse word" at the French player.
Zidane has not given his account of the incident but there have been reports Materazzi had called him a "terrorist" or suggested he did not have the right to play for France -- both insults based on French-born Zidane's Algerian heritage.

To get a man sent of by deliberately denigrating his family in order to provoke is quite common in sports.
A man with a muslim background will react immediately to that particular insults and thats exactly what materazzi had planned for Zidanne and he fell hook line and sinker for it.
when we react to people that provokes us with an act of violence, the provocator is let off. Even the courts dont care about mitigating circumstances. Even FIFA will not consider what was said by the lowlife materazzi.
The only hope of redemption that zidanne has is that the whole
world witnessed the event and the majority like myself who had been provoked in the past will see things from his view.
I used Zidanne case to drive the point home to my son who is quickly provoked to anger. I said to him ' Son dont be a sucker to provocators, you always get the blame if you react.
