Jazz - because the pieces are harmonically and melodically complex, involve improvisation and require a refined ear to understand. This is music one can be thrilled by, moved by, enriched.
Favorite artist or band is a little hard to answer, because there are so many from whom to choose.

These are just a few of the artists that have stretched the concept of music to it's farthest reaches, and they have inspired a whole new generation of artists who are continuing the tradition, none the least of whom is Wynton Marsalis.

Metal of all genres....... I think the production and intimacy many metal fans feel with the bands is truly beautiful, also most people write off metalheads as pot smoking,alcohol swilling,satanic idiots when most of us are truly not of the above the musicians are extremely talented and the emotion just pour out.
I have to many fav bands but a few are

anyhow i could go on forever but these bands are my fav. because on some level i connect with the music.

I Can't pinpoint my favorite kind of music-I love Metal Bluegrass, classical, rock, country...just about anything but rap and hip hop.
My favorite artist by far is Neil Young. His lyrics get me, his voice-especially on some of his more sad songs, is just...I just love him. I think his politics suck, but his music is fabulous. Cowgirl In The Sand and Like a Hurricane tie for my fav songs of his.

Favorite kind of music is trance. The reason is its combination of beautiful melodies and powerful rhythms. Favorite artist is Above & Beyond. The reason is their track titled "Air for Life".

My favorite kind of music is heavy metal. I like the speed, energy, the mastery of the instrument necessary to play it, and the negativity of the lyrics.
My favorite band is Slayer.

given the time to listen you can find good in all styles of music.
I grew up hearing country and rock but,I know several entertainers as friends as well.
i can go from the "carpenters-meatloaf-Ac/dc-kiss-tommy james-john denver-pink floyd-etc...............I can name off bands and solo artist from every style and walk of walk all the way to rap.Although the rap is limited.Not an easy question for a true music lover..almost impossible.

Sarah McLachlan has to be my favorite, hands down.
I just love her lyrics.
I have very eclectic musical tastes in general, but I'm just all about the easy listening stuff.

i recognize music genres that branch of from rock. Alt rock, punk, now not undemanding rock, rock. precise i recognize Avenged Sevenfold, Breaking Benjamin, upward thrust antagonistic to, guns n Roses, The Strokes, The conflict, Hollywood Undead, Smashing Pumpkins, Oasis the list is going on :)

Jazz and instrumental guitar music. I love guitars and playing guitars. I like Pat Metheny, Al DiMeola, Steve Vai, and many others.
