A catalyst is something that initiates or speeds up a chemical reaction without being changed in the reaction itself. It will possibly be used to speed up setting or allow setting of the cement under certain conditions or it may promote a certain chemical reaction to occur for reasons of strength or stability. It's a bit like the coach of a football team.

is it a normal cement plant or do they make other products too? Do they make plastics by any chance?
