they get threatened with their life, with the kids, with no one will or could love you, they are belittled not just physically but emotionally so bad that they believe it, some people have no where to go and no one to help and can not stand living in group homes, it takes a lot of courage and strength

As a woman that was in an abusive relationship, I can tell you honestly that, yes, we do love the men that abuse us. That is the first thing that keeps us there and the promises that they will never do it again. Eventually, it isn't the love, but the fear that keeps us there. For fear of what they will do if we leave. 50% of women that leave abusive relationships, end up being abused even worse or killed for leaving. Believe it or not, it seems to be safer to stay than to leave.

It took me 5 years to get out of an abusive relationship. Being on the outside its easy to not understand why people don't leave as soon as they should. Your afraid of being beaten if you leave, your self esteem is completely gone so you doubt yourself and your ability to live without the other, afraid for your children (mine were kidnapped by ex), I could go on and on. Please don't judge a person from an abusive relationship you have no idea what has happened to them and I would never wish someone to walk in my shoes to find out.

Sometimes I think lack of selfesteem..the more insecure you feel, the more you stay in a relationship like that.. the minute you realize how much of a person you are, you will make desicions, I know exactly what Im talking about and if I can, anybody can....i'm worth a lot as a humain being, so why whould i settle for less..

One main reason is the fear that a person cannot make it on their own. Usually they are told by this abuser that they are dependent upon them. They are lead to believe that they will fail. I know this especially holds true for women with children.
Another reason being fear, there is fear of retaliation if they leave. That the abuser may come after them and whoever that tries to help them.

Abused people are so beaten down emotionally that often they feel they deserve the abuse, or they are terrified to leave. It's a tragic thing. :-(

because some people are scared that the person will kill them or harm them if they leave, or feel as though no one will really love them, like the abusive partner.

Because you are scared and you are afraid to leave. You are afraid that no one else will love you or ever accept you again. You are afraid that you are going to be beaten even more for leaving. Plain and simple, you are scared.

The patent answer is, "Because I love him!" I can't see the attraction to somebody beating you, or verbally abusing you. If I'm gonna "love" somebody, it's gonna be somebody that doesn't BEAT me!
