I didn't want to mess with anything so dug up the area, sprayed it with Round Up and filled it with river rock. It looked good the first year. Now every year I spray the weeds and watch them die. The rest of my lawn is bright green and well kept and then there is my dead weed rock bed. I pull out the dead ones and start all over with the Round Up.
WHAT else can I do with it? It looks so terrible. I don't have the money to hire anyone. My daughter and I would have to do it with some family help. Thanks for any suggestions!!

If you like the river rock look, take all of it out and then lay down some plastic. Be sure the entire ground is covered in plastic. An 8x25' roll of plastic will cost you about $8.00. Then you can lay your rock back in on the plastic. Be sure it is only rock. If soil is mixed with it you will get weeds back. Wash the soil out of the rock if there is any before you put it back on the plastic. This is about as cheap as you can go. Good luck.

Why not remove the the stone, add a good enriched potting type soil you can get at any lawn&garden store and work up the area mentioned. I don't know exactly where this is in your yard, but you could try planting a perenial garden or you could plant some ground-cover plants or with a little more soil you could create a little area of evergreen and various flowing shubs. or if none of this appeals to you, simply remove the stone and put down a good quality groundcover to keep from getting all these weeds and put back the stones.

I can't believe we are in the same situation. However, I hated the river rock, put an ad in The Flyer to give it away for free and got rid of it in an hour.

I then went the Round Up route and am presently digging the holes for various plants to attract birds and butterflies and intend to place a bird bath and bird feeders in the middle and cover the area with the cheapest mulch I can find.

Go for it. I'm a female sr. cit. and doing it - in stages - on my own.

Best of luck in whatever you decide to do. You could use the rock in other areas if you decide to remove it on your own. THAT is heavy work!

remove rocks then get some landscape fabric at home depot of elsewhere then lay it down then replace rocks. not very costly! just removing rocks will be the hard part but it will last for years! good luck!
