I saw it (reluctantly) and am convinced that the young boy Sean, read the letters the ex-lover buried (remember he followed her, but did not know who she was later?) - but I am very confused over the end of the film.... is she just a freak? did he (the little boy) lie? opinions?

ps.. yes, it was a strange film, but I am leaning towards that the young boy Sean lied.

I do understand that the bath scene was disturbing (even to me!), but I do know that it was done in a way that the Nicole Kidman and the boy actor (sorry, cannot remember his name!!) were filmed separately.. very ingenius really.. and if you watch very closely you can even tell.

Ok, that movie was great, very heart wrenching, and I loved it. I think the boy was somewhat disturbed/confused, yes, he found those letters and read them, but I don't think he pretended to be "Sean" out of meanness or boredom, I think he found the letters, he read them, and maybe he really thought these were for him, he looked at the dates and thought it was possible and then when he found out "Sean" really didn't love Anna, he snapped out of it, he was so hurt and distraught. Ya know, I think about what I would do if my husband died and however many years later I had this boy telling me he was my husband and he knew all of this personal, secret stuff, and I don't know what I'd do either. Anna really loved her husband and clearly missed him, so of course she didn't want to run the risk of not believing him. I really loved this movie.

My wife and I watched this movie, and I have to admit we both thought it was one of the worst movies we had ever seen...That bath scene was just gross.....any way thats what we both felt the movie was saying, that the kid found the letters and just made the stuff up. I think that even made things worse....I think we could have let the thought of them in the bath slide if in fact it was her ex....

You're right- he read the letters that night and that's how he knew everything. The reason he finally told the truth was that he found out Anna's husband didn't really love her (was cheating on her) and he didn't wanna pretend to be someone who would do something like that to her.
