Absolutely! The dollar would have to be severely devalued to pull it off, and guess what!??! That's exactly what the Fed is trying to do. If you were alive and cogent in the early 80's, prepare for a repeat of that economic hangover. If not, get rid of every dollar you have and buy gold or pounds or something that doesn't have the word America on it. The quickest way to address the debt is to begin to make it worth a whole lot less. That's the economic policy we're pursuing these days and it's going to hurt, a lot, before it gets better.

NO sane person believes it is impossible to pay ANY amount of debt. The US Federal debt belongs in POLITICS, not PERSONAL finance. It took DECADES to get that far INTO debt and will take decades to get out. The method is the same for a country as for an individual. CONTROL SPENDING. That is why the US won't even start getting out in the foreseeable future.

It's possible, not probable. But what's interesting is when we had a surplus (remembwer those days during Clinton admin?), there was concern about what we would do when we retired the debt. Ha, fat chance of that happening now.

at some point(soon) we will have no choice except to default on the debt(aka bankruptcy for those that do not understand)...Once the interest on the debt is higher than the tax collections, it/we WILL be insolvent.
