There are herbs, weight loss(if you are overweight), relaxation techniques and anything that reduces stress. Each thing doesn't work the same for everyone. Talk to your doctor, a nutritionist and a sports trainer, if you are serious. Meanwhile, take your BP meds...Your kidneys will thank you. High BP works the kidneys like they were running a 24hr marathon. You can wind up on dialysis or have a stroke. The worst thing about having a stroke isn't dying from it...but almost dying an spending the rest of your life in a care facility, unable to help yourself. BP meds are a small trade off for that until you find an alternate solution. Talk to your doctor an make a plan you both can live with. Good Luck!

First, no, or reduced, salt. Get "Also-salt" as a substitute. Its only carried in Dillon's markets around here. It is the only fake salt which doesn't have a bitter aftertaste. But getting away from salt is the number one way you can drop the old blood pressure. And it isn't easy. Check the labels to see what the salt content is when you shop. A lot of times, you can cut a lot out by selecting healthier options. Forget about canned veggies, all salty. Get frozen or fresh. No snacks, like chocolate, or chips. Although, there are some no-salt chips starting to show. They taste pretty good, like chips used to taste a long time ago. Ritz has reduced sodium crakers. Canned albacore tuna is available with no added salt. Watch the chicken. They add a lot of flavor enhancers to fresh poultry now, and salt is the number one ingredient. Check the labels, and the breakdown for the ingredients. Mrs Dash has an entire line of salt-free seasoning blends. There's a lot of difference in sodium contents in different items. Catsup is a salty one, mustard is not. Worchestershire sauce is surprisingly low in sodium, and so is tobasco sauce. Use onion and garlic to bring out flavor. And if you eat out, eat salty foods sparingly, and don't touch the salt shaker. Let the labels be your guide when shopping. Hunts even has a no added salt tomato paste. Cereals are also riddled with salt, but some are very low, or have none.
Salt is number one, fats and exercise are also important. Try to eat low cholesterol, use olive oil instead of vegetable. Eat white cheeses rather than yellow. Stay away from whole milk, butter, and oleo. Use skim milk. Use Favio's "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter". And if you drink alcohol, do it sparingly. Sodas, lots of salt.
I had 180 over 110 BP a year ago, down to 140 over 70 now. But I had too make the hard choices, and cut that salt out of my life. I exercised more, and watched the food. I figure if the choice is my salt and a stroke, or no salt and living a better life longer with family, I'll pick the latter.

Yes.....relax. You must start to take things easier.
The world is a stressful place and that like most you are caught up in the web of society.
Outside influences will play a role on your inner-self which in turn will, if you don't control it, play havoc with your system.
So take a step back review your situation in life and begin to enjoy life for what it is.
If you do you will automatically reduce your blood pressure!!

Most doctors will tell you that your weight has alot to do with your blood pressure for most people. The heavier you are the harder your heart has to pump to get blood to the rest of your body. As fat starts to squeeze your veins your heart has to pump harder... i.e. higher blood pressure. There are no magic pills to take, just eat a proper balanced meal in small portions and drink lots of water (I add lemon to mine) and maybe even do some walking (couple of miles a day) and you will be surprised what your body will do for you... lower blood pressure and you will have lots of energy!!

4. Lower alcohol consumption to less than 1 consumption/day
5. avoid salt in diet

The only true natural thing would be to lose weight/exercise. Just how natural is the equivalent of 1000 cloves of garlic going into your system anyways?
