I found lots of info on Fireflies on the net. In essence, I learned they are mostly east of Miss.. To attract them, try cutting down on lawn chemicals, reduce extra lighting and plant tall grasses, shrubs, etc to provide cool, moist, daytime shelter.

I don't know anout CT but, in IL they are still alurking and lightning away .Florida doesn't have them at all,so don't worry, just a slow year, for your state, they will be back. Enjoy when they do, I miss them, here in florida, we have love bugs, more like hate bugs that die in or on or around your car.

I live in Nebraska and have seen lots of lightning bugs almost every evening. However, I have not seen any butterflies this year and we usually have hundreds of them. Have you seen any butterflies in CT?

I do not know who wrote this comment ,but someone put in IL lighting bugs are still lurking away and Florida does not have them at all so do not worry.
I beg the differ you are obviously not from Florida, I have lived in Florida all my life, friends and I would go out at night and catch them in jars and put them in our mouths and watch our cheeks light up, they love warmer drier areas and they are found around wet or damp areas that retain moisture, does anyone out there who knows about lighting bugs know what happen to them?

They came to my house. They love to hang out by the ponds and watch their reflections in the water. Sorry for your loss I hope they come back to CT soon. They're too pretty not to share.

I have seen several lightbugs in my yard , my grandchildern love chasing them ! I have seen some butterflies here and there, not as many as the lightbugs in the evening. I guess nature could be off balance a bit , the weather as been crazy. I wish I could tell you...
