It is very hard for rucking companies in the U.S. to stay open for business; due to high fuel cost, companies not wanting to pay the fuel surcharges or increased rates, and also the demand and lack of good decent drivers. Many trucking companies are going out of business due to these reasons. Are any of you owners of trucking companies and feeling the consequences of these situations? if so how are you dealing with them? What makes you wanna continue in this industry?

Rail and Air is rising? Great....so what does that have to do with trucking. Air shipments are running about $2000-$5000 for a 1500 lb skid. I don't think I see companies resorting to this as an alternative for trucks. As far as rail. It is still more expensive than a truck. You think Air or Rail freight don't get damaged. As long as a human is in charge of moving it then there is a good chance that it will get damaged. The more you move it the more chance there is of it becoming damaged. As far as get your 8 and go home...Whats wrong with that? Thats what I do and I still make a good living. Lateley it has been 8 usually it is 12. Slight decrease in business as a result of fuel, bad economy, war. Certainly not because of Air and Rail. We just recently dropped our Air service...wan't making a very good profit. At those prices I can see why. The people really suffering from all this is the O/O. I don't see how they can survive costing $4-$500 to fill your tanks. I know a few that work as indepentant contractors for a LTL company and they make so nice cash. So they say....but I am sure they are and good for them.

I'm an Ex Trucker, and worked for a small Company. I drove their truck, and if something happened to it mechanically, I reported it and got it fixed. Now there is so little money, shortcuts are being taken, so I quit rather than pilot a sub-standard vehicle down your highways. It's getting that bad!! Thanks for the 2 points, letting me get that off my chest, and I think I deserve 10 points for refusing to do the wrong thing ( Just kidding, but Thanks )
