There are mountains and alps in northern Italy, and it was invaded by the Vikings, too -- but that doesn't make them any less "Italian" for crying out loud!

Didn't Hiltler want to create a blond haired-blue eyed "master" aryan race? -- isn't your statement similar to that view?

I'm making the comparison because the idiot's statement that "Italian = Olive or Dark, NOT germanic," and that Sicilians and Southern Calabrese are the only "real" Italians.
I am appalled that there are still so many narrow-minded people after all our HUMAN race has been through.

Sati (next response) concurs with me; it's the geographical location that led to the evolution of different pigmentation in humans.

They probably look Germanic because they are so close to Germany, as well as France, and Austria. Plus, some parts of Italy was acquired after World War II, so some of them aren't "real" Italians.

Also, Northern Italy is in the Alps so they have lighter skin. Southern Italy is in the Mediterranean and closer to the equator, so they would be darker.

I don't think that being lighter skinned makes them less Italian, it just makes them different than the stereotype in our minds.

hearkat, why are you comparing Hitler ideaology & propaganda to a guy just asking why Italians are so dark? Geez some people are overly sensitive these days.

And I always wondered why italians are dark too. You would think whiter europeans would immigrate to their over years.

Perhaps, it's an equatorial thing.
