I don't know if it's the present tense you're searching for, but back in the day one could find a place called San Remo on Bleeker Street, where a lot of the Beat Poets and other literary luminaries used to hang out. A lot of folk songs reference it for that reason, and that's how I know of it.

There's a really fantastic map at the link below--you can read down the lists on both sides and see what is on Bleeker Street now and what used to be there. It has a really engaging history.
