I wash the towels by themselves. If you wash other articles of clothing with them, you will probably end up with lint on the other clothes.

To save time I use those color guard sheets if the towels are white and the clothes are dark....the dryer gets the lint out. Just make sure the towels are put in with items like jeans ,shorts, t-shirts and things the same size and weight...don't throw bras and panties in...the towels will tear them apart in the spin cycle.

I wash my towels alone, putting other items of clothing in is just asking for trouble. One time without thinking I put a really nice navy blue sweater in a load of towels, now my sweater looks horrible and I refuse to wear it in public ! Its ruin and I am rather mad at myself for doing it without thinking. The lint from towels is awful and really hard to clear off of clothing. You can pick and pick and that stuff just won't go.I have even used duct tape!

I prefer to wash them alone. I use fabric softener on the clothes, but don't use it on towels so that they will stay thick and puffy (sounds backwards, but fabric softener makes them less puffy). Washing them separately also keeps the fuzz from the towels from getting on the clothes.

Wash towels separately (bath towels in cold or hot...cleaning towels in hot), especially if they are brand new. Towels usually get little balls of fuzzy on them and they can transfer to your clothes, especially sweaters.

Alone, permanent press items seem to wash better than when put in with other items.

You should wash your towels with nothing else otherwise you might ruin your laundry. I've done it and I've learned my lesson.
