I am a very clean person, however i live in a four-plex (upper level) and i have red ants in my bathroom and bedrooms. They aren't anywhere in my kitchen. I keep my bathroom clean and i have wiped it down with pine-sol and window cleaner. Still not working. Nothing is getting rid of these. I am 7 months pregnant, have a 5, 4, and 10 month old with two kitties. Are there any siggestions that i can do other than ant traps? I am afraid of poisoning. Someone mentioned Borax...is this true for working?

I had the same problem a few years ago and used this Ant poison ( http://www.killsbugsdead.com/fop_dc_ab.asp ). Ants will carry it to their queen and she will eat it and die, killing the whole colony.

The poison is enclosed inside the little box so your pets won't be able to get to it. just put it in the ants trail, it works fantastic!

Red ants? Well, if they are the biting type than you should really consider pest management through a reputable service. If you can't do that, than you should buy enclosed baiting/poison stations, you just put them in the area where they travel and the take the bait back to the queen and it kills the colony. There are several different manufacturers of these items and there is little to no risk to children/animals as the poison in contained in hard plastic shells. They can also be mounted under cabinets to avoid being seen.

Borax absolutely works. I had an identical problem, and set out a jar containing toilet paper soaked in a solution of borax and sugar. Within two days, there was not a single ant in the house! Everyone is saying everything in your answers, but... BORAX! I'm telling you. Try it before you use anything toxic.

I just learned about this trick in my Redbook magazine. Take cucumber peel and place wherever you have red ants. It is like kryptonite to them. I have also heard that ants are attracted to Lysol because there is a sweetness to it. Not sure if it's true or not. Best of luck!

Boric acid powder - the ants track through it, bring it back to the nest, ingest while grooming each other and die. It's slow, but works.

Borax, bug spray or red pepper. Vinegar works, too. Spray it around the window and any holes you notice. Or, yeah, just call......the ORKIN MAN!
