I assume you're looking for real money games, but all the sites I recommend below also have play money games.

What makes a poker site good? I think the number of players is probably the most important factor. If there aren't any games going, nothing else really matters. However, the quality of the software and user interface is also pretty important.

Here are my picks:

#1. Party Poker. The largest poker site with the greatest number of cash games. The software is somewhat mediocre compared to #2 and #3 on my list, but the quality of the games makes up for their shortcomings. My favorite games are the Bad Beat Jackpot tables, especially with a big jackpot.

#2. Poker Stars. The second largest poker site with a player base that's more tournament-oriented, though they have many cash games as well. Home of WSOP champions Moneymaker and Raymer. Good software that's constantly improving. Good company, too. I usually play the 1 or 2 table SNGs on Stars.

#3. Full Tilt Poker. Fastest growing poker site with my favorite of all the software, but the lack of players in the limit cash games can be a drag. The tourneys are decent if you like playing against smaller fields, and of course, there's always the opportunity to play for small, medium, or big stakes against the biggest pros out there. FTP is also the only site I know that spreads Razz and holds HORSE tourneys. I usually play the 1 or 2 table SNGs, Razz, and occasionally a guaranteed prize tournament.

There are also a couple other sites I've played, such as PokerRoom, Paradise Poker, and Ultimate Bet. They're probably worth checking out since they rank pretty high on PokerPulse. However, since I haven't really continued to play at these sites, I can't really recommend them here.

I've also played at Planet, and that was hands down the worst site I've played. Followed closely by Pacific and Absolute Poker.

Hi,

I would have to say that depends on what type of player you are and which games you prefer.

Full Tilt is a good site, but has some of the better players online. PartyPoker has some of the loosest players around. PokerStars is great for tournaments, by far the best if you prefer playing mostly tourneys. Poker.com, a newer site, has some cool features and some good promotions.

I suggest you take a look around and see which ones you feel would suit you best. Personally, I like Full Tilt Poker the best.
