...though they have transgressed in every which way possible.

I'm not much of a hugger. My my local church is currently struggling with an Open and Affirming movement. The leader of the opposition is a prominent member of the congregation who will support the motion, but wants to put enough "but" statements in (But no gay or lesbian minister, But no Gay Marriage even if it does become legal, But no commitment ceremonies, etc.) to scare away any self-respecting LBGT or even Friends thereof, PFLAGGer or who knows who else.

We are creatures of habit in this 170 year old church and he and seating on Sunday morning is no exception. He and I share a pew out of habit, we shake hands and we chat before the music starts. He knows he's out of step with the mainstream, he knows that I for one see him as not only wrong, but destructive to the church's need to spread God's love. Be as I tell him that God loves all his children, I remind myself that he is one of those children too. If he continues to pray and listen, God will show him the light.

So if a hearty handshake and a peck to his wife's cheek count as a hug....it was Sunday.

I hug heterosexual Christians all the time --- ah, what you really mean is heterosexual Christian FUNDAMENTALISTS. Important word to include. Those, not so much.

I am from a Left wing parish of a liberal Church (Episcopalian) -- a parish with a (for a non -Catholic or Mega Church) huge congregation. I am used to hugging heterosexual Christians, but they all accept gays and have no problem with them -- so, I guess they don't count.

Now that would confuse them...they would have to run off to their minister and ask how to handle the situation...great idea...I am going to do that today..will give you a report as soon as I have tested the waters....But I want to make sure I pick the right ones....the ones that think being Gay is contagious and a choice. This will be great fun. Thanks

Never.

I'm not into hugging people outside of family and/or relationship. But that's just me and my crazy understanding of personal space.
