Sometimes it will start and she can drive it, other times, it won't start and she will have to wait awhile for it to start again and it will either start, or, it will start, but eventually die while she's driving it. Does anybody have any explanation on why this is happening to her car?

I can't believe any one would answer this in good faith. There is just not enough information in your question for you ever to get an good answer. Every answer is potentially right and every answer is potentially wrong. This is why mechanics are trained and open businesses. They provide a public service in answering questions like the one you have.

If the car is cold (overnight wait) and starts right up, but has trouble after a twenty minute drive; or quits all together after about a half hour, there are some specific things that are wrong. It is a good idea to get opinions here, so when you talk to a real mechanic, you will be ALL SET.

It sounds like your car needs a basic tune-up. But the Oxygen Sensor might be the real culprit.

I agree with yes_its_me. There is not enough information in your question to give a sound answer. you did not even give the make, model, or year. and even If you did, It would still be hard to pinpoint. You need to take that car to a reputable mechanic and let him check it out.

Tune Ups are made to avoid that, the filters could be dirty and the carburation system is not working well.
