We have had a debate in my bible study. And I am just curious. They are both stated in the bible.

Christians should not focus so much on "good works" as they should good works for God. In other words don't just do stuff that's "good" keep a continuing dialog with God and ask him to lead you to the right Good thing. The only motivation should be to Glorify God, which is our purpose, it shouldn't because 'you have to" or because you think you'll get some pay off in heaven.

Neither is accurate. We do good works because it pleases God.
If we do good expecting something to come of it, Jesus clearly says that is its own reward and we won't get any "credit" for it in heaven.
There are a lot of things we are commanded to do and don't - thus the need for Christ's atoning death, yes?

I actually dont do it for either... I know I am commanded to, however - I do it because I feel so good about myself after I do it... theres nothing like helping other people and doing whats right. Its a natural high here on earth. Just doing what Christ wants us to do and knowing you are walking right with him - makes me feel THE BEST. :)

Doing good work transcends any religion. And despite what our holy books say, there is no proof that there is heaven or hell.

i do good work cuz i want to and yes to get to the pearly gates of heaven. but people should do good works cuz they want to not just for the rewards.
