I have answered a few questions regarding suicide and keep finding answers from other people saying that it's illegal.....what's the deal? Are they correct?

Great, thank you for the answers. I just dont see why it's considered illegal when, if the attempt is successful, you can't be prosecuted. *shrugs*

And where in this question do I state that I want to commit suicide? God, you people really need to READ THE QUESTION before answering. I DO NOT want to kill myself. Nothing in my life is worth committing suicide right now. LOL

In actuality, YES, it is illegal...by both State and Federal laws. But that's absolutely ridiculous because, what can any institution DO to prevent it? If you "attempt" suicide and fail, and the authorities take it into their hands, they can and most likely would prosecute you with charges of attempted suicide IF you refused to agree with getting psychological help and/or follow-up. But the answer that everyone has been telling you, that suicide is illegal, they are in fact, correct.

Technically, killing one's self would be illegal. If anyone killed another person, they are punishable by prison or the death penalty, so they can't kill again.
But the killing of one's self for personal reasons isn't a matter of having say over your place on the planet. It's an act of violence and is contrary to the instinct for survival.
Suicide is simply wrong.
We live in an entropic universe. Everything is grinding down, destroying itself. Stars are burning out.
Life is the opposite of entropy. Here, on this little planet of ours, life is standing up against entropy and making a bold statement. We live and we create and we feel... and that spark has an instinct to create more life, to continue, even in the end, we die of old age.
There is love and laughter among the things that are about life. Anyone who wants to walk out of their lives and leave such beauty behind needs help.

Yes, it's illegal to commit suicide, but, in a lot of states it means you are commited to a institution for evaluation, and not sent to jail. I think it's a good idea to make it illegal, I have seen what it does to those left behind ! if it stops just one person it's justified !!

Does it really matter? If you're gone, your gone. The only thing to worry about is whether any life insurance you have has a suicide clause. If your life insurance covers suicide, you have nothing to lose by killing yourself except your own life. So how is the law supposed to punish you? By seizing your estate and preventing your relatives from inheriting your belongings? It's not their fault you're dead, why punish them?
It wouldn't surprise me at all if some retarded state legislature actually outlawed suicide. I mean, we're passing unconstitutional marriage laws left and right, why not go ahead and tell people they're not allowed to kill themselves?

In the US, it is illegal....but 9 outta 10 times, it just lands you with a three day stint in a mental ward...
In Singapore, it is a crime to attempt to commit suicide - punishable by death! So, if youre caught ATTEMPTING suicide, they finish the job for you. Makes sense - no one "trys" unsuccessfully for attention, as sometimes happens here in the States....

It depends on the reasons, for example you may want to commit suicide because you cant pay back money, just murdered someone, etc, only under those cases they can find you guilty of attempted suicide for evading responsability. It depends on how good the lawyer is.
If the person just wants to kill himself and fails, he sent to a crazy house.... $@%!&*!

Yes it is illegal (depending on the state), though you cannot be charged with commiting suicide, only attempting it. For obvious reasons.

I'm not sure if there is actually a law against suicide, but it would be kind of pointless to have one. If you are successful, you're dead and can't be prosecuted. If you were unsuccessful, then you didn't really commit the crime.

Yes, it is unlawful. We do not have the right to take our own lives at anytime.
The flip side is that if you succeed, then what can they do? If you fail, you will wind up 5150 in a psyche ward.
If you're contemplating it, run for help. Don't think; just do it. It is a physical illness. You're not wacko. It's a brain chemical thing. Don't be shy.
Were it one of your friends or family, what would you want them to do?
