I don't know if you know anything about neurotransmitters and how the body works, but the receptors along the digestive track are called nicotinic receptors because nicotine is an analog of the chemical messenger made in our own bodies that tells our digestive system to get moving. Look up peristalsis and refer to some physiology or neurobiology texts if you want more info, but yeah, that is why you feel like you have to take a dump after you smoke a ciggy sometimes.

Habit and routine, thus the reason some people find the task of quitting smoking a difficult one. In order to reprogram the mind that a cigarette is not needed one needs to change the routine they follow...i.e. If someone smokes a cigarette every day immediately after eating, instead they should do something totally different when the trigger (eating) expects a cigarette. Eventually, changing the action to avoid smoking results in the person reducing if not quitting completely.

Scientific: A learned habit developed over time and the ability of the brain to remember the habit and how/when the action of smoking is expected.

I guess it's because we can't start up a vehicle without lighting one up either. Don't know if there's a scientific explanation for that.

i am an ex smoker...because maybe people feel like it settles the food. I think the deep breath from the lungs help push down on the intestine. so deep breathing after a meal might do the same!

That is a really good question, but I don't smoke so I can't help you.
