I think it's great news... I mean you're now a published poet. Though you may not recieve any payment, do not fret, remember most poets don't get paid let alone published... Be happy with this accomplishment.

Poetry.com is a scam!
They will publish ANYTHING you throw at them. FOr proof, I offer my poem WORDS as an example:
Words are what I speak
Words are what I say
Words are what I say
Words are what I write
Poetry like this is gay

THAT was chosen as a semi-finalist for their "competition" and was to be included in their latest anthology, which I could purchase for only $45.00

NO legitimate publisher willl charge you for books that they put your work into. You might not get paid, however you usually do get a free book out of the deal.
You should be happy that you are being published, because not everyone does get that far, though... even if it is from something like this.. most people don't have the drive to even present their work for consideration.

Yes this is a good thing. CONGRTULATIONS!

As long as you are credited as the writer. Did you read the agreement you ententerd when you joined poetry.com? Some websites end up having rights to use your material in a variety of ways. So if you didnt read it (and you got the time) read it now.

Personally I would be happy to have my poems published. It might be intersting to find out how many other writers are in this book. Then think of your percentage. Or do you want payment for your work? Because once its on the internet its free.
You have to build your hype on that. Go and do some spoken word nights, and show off your skills. Then you can get paid..
PEACE x
Im off to poetry.com now

First thing you want to find out is, does anyone else besides people published in this book, actually buy the book.

I once got really heady over a letter I got saying I was being listed in the Who's Who of College Students.... thought I'd really accomplished something.

Fortunately, before I forked out the $50 or whatever it was to get my copy, someone explained to me that it was a sort of a scam, because the only people they sold the book to, were people who were listed in the book.

In other words, is this book of poetry actually going to STORES or is it just being sold through this website, to the people published in the book?

If they are on the up and up, they will GIVE you a copy of the publication AND PAY YOU for your poem.

Actually I too have received confirmation. While yes it is a good thing, but you are buying a product. The whole thing is to get you and your friends/family to buy the books. The next thing to come is the conventions. You pay alot of money to go to these they give everyone that comes an award (your entrance fees pay for it big time) and they have special speakers come there. You can go to Poetry.com and see the information for this years. But believe me you will be getting alot of notices from them.

The nice thing is that your work is copyrighted by putting it on there. You can submit it to companies that publise poetry this is the best way.

Best of luck!

Hey there, I have recieved MANY emails from poetry.com - just like yours. They make money off of buying the books that your poems were in.

If it really were a good deal, you would get a book free, after all they did use your work to help create it.

As for having them "copywrite" your work... did you know - you can copy write your own things for free? You can do this by posting it on the internet, or even mailing your work to yourself in a sealed envelope - this will copywrite your stuff for free...

Its a scam. Sorry to tell ya...

I will also add, you can submit your WORST work ever and they will put it in their book.

sure, Iam also having one of my poems published in the current edition (I have had MANY published over the years this way). I would not buy the book(s), as they are quite expensive and that is how they make thier money.

I take advantage of the fact that they copyright them in my name.

It's a nice little achievement. But don't get too worked up over it :) I have been doing it for years-it just adds something else to my credentials, I suppose!

I am sad to say that most of these are a scam to get you to buy the book. That doesn't mean you aren't a great poet, it just means they take advantage of people. Just be careful. It shouldn't have to cost you any money. If so, it's a rip off. If not, congratulations. And any way you look at it, keep on writing!

It's good if you are willing to pay alot of cash to have a book with some of your work in it.These books only come from that one site and after you agree to one suddenly another is good enough to publish. I got one and was quite excited and still have the book. Now think it's a bit of a con. Investigate further but be wary.

How is getting poems published a bad thing? Of course it's a good thing!
What you need to know is that since you're just starting out, be humble and grateful and just go with the flow.
Congrats!

I think that's a great thing, it's always good to get your stuff out there for other people to read. I know that when something of mine got published it gave me a real confidence booster, i felt so much better about all my writing and stuff, you know? I don't know if there's a lot you need to know, but i think you should go celebrate, this might be the start of something big for you!!
