something else. In the movie, they focus on his heroic behavior, but as soon as he's off-screen, you know he's out pillaging, stealing, raping, etc. After all, he IS a pirate. But the filmmakers wisely avoid the negative behavior associated with his ilk, in order to romanticize his character.

He is a pirate. Someone who robs and kills people to get what he wants. A criminal.
