You're fine. Don't obsess over it. TSS cases are rare anyway, and assuming you are in otherwise good health, I sure wouldn't worry about 8-10 hours.

Not particularly. Wearing a tampon to bed isn't the BEST idea, but it's not particularly HORRIBLE. TSS involves an infection which can be caused by the bacteria that grows on tampons, but if you change it regularly, don't worry as much. Just make sure you use the right kind of tampon for your particular flow and change it at the very least every 8 hours, although 4 hours is a better time frame.

oh no, i do it all the time. it will increase ur chances but its nothing to worry about - hardly anyone gets TSS, but honostly if u change it right before u go to sleep and rigth when u wake up - unless u plan on sleeping a full 12 hours u shoudl be fine. the box of most tampons says to change it somewhere between 4 to 8 hours.. so u should be fine. i do it and have no problems. dont worry about it, youll be fine. no to gross u out, but one time i forgot i had a tampon in and put another one in and didnt notice it was there for a least a DAY!!!! and i didnt get TSS haha - proly the grossest thing and most embarssing moment of my life!! haha, but if i didnt get it from that, you dont need to worry about leaving one in over night. youll be fine : ) hope my embarassing story helped haha buhbyee

Tampons significantly increase your risk of TSS, more so if you use commercial tampons such as Tampax over Organic, Sponge or Homemade tampons. This is true regardless of how long you leave them in or if you leaver them in over night or not, it is just leaving them in for too long and leaving them in overnight increases the risk of TSS. Just as using tampons full-stop increases risk of vaginal infections.

The reason it is advised not to wear tampons over night is not just because of the length of time you leave them I but also because tampons work by absorbing fluids – this includes discharge, as such this along with the fact that blood retrogrades (flows back into your body) when you are laying down rather than flowing down means higher chance of vaginal splitting thus increasing risk of infection and TSS.

If you are worried about TSS it is advised that you switch to a safer option such as menstrual pads or menstrual cups, both of which can be used safely for long lengths of time and overnight.

Yes! Tampons should not be worn while sleeping. The risk of infection is very great.
