PLEASE I DON'T WANT USELESS ANSWERS!!!!! My children saw the first movie but I have heard that the new one is much scarier. I have a 7 year old and a 9 year old. They have seen movies like lord of the rings, Star Wars, Jurassic Park. They understand the concept of CG and know it's not real but I don't want to subject them to horrible dreams. If you have seen it...what is so scary about it so I can decide.

I have to agree to answer #6. Giving your opinion is one thing and bringing certain things to my attention would have been helpfull. You could have given a link to that information so it didn't ruin the movie for everyone who hasn't seen it. Thanks for the effort though.

i thought that some of the characters were scary and at the beginning a cannibal pops out at u..and i swear, everyone in the theater jumped.....it was pretty funny
i would say it might be too scary for them, but if they saw jurassic park then they should be fine!!! maybe u should see it first and decide for yourself, its pretty funny but i dont know if children of that age would find many parts funny...its up to you!
p.s. to the person who answered before me: wow that was not a brief summary...u told basically the whole movie but w/o pictures!!

I took my 7 year old grandaughter and she was scared in many parts of the movie. She buried her face in the seat. I think it's a little intense for young children. As an adult, I enjoyed the first movie much better than this one. The story line on this one drags and I very much disliked the ending. Have to say that I can't recommend the movie.

I took my 9 year old to see it this weekend. It was fine. If they can handle those other movies then they can handle this one. Hope you enjoy it.

OUR WORD TO PARENTS:
The following is a brief summary of the content found in this action adventure film that's been rated PG-13. Profanity consists of various uses of a typically British phrase, while a few other expletives and some colorful phrases are also uttered. Some sexually related dialogue and innuendo is present, as are varying amounts of cleavage.

Action-based violence occurs, including murders, attempted murders (of the living and the living dead), and various people being killed by a giant octopus that yanks entire ships beneath the sea. A bar brawl and various instances of sword fighting are also present. Some of that material has bloody/gory results, while that, as well as other moments of peril and various visuals (of mutant creatures & monsters, etc.) may be rather intense, suspenseful or downright scary to younger kids, although older ones will probably only find it to be adventurous fun.

Various characters have varying degrees of bad attitudes, while various characters appear intoxicated (and one repeatedly vomits from being that way). Finally, all of the fighting, stunts and Johnny Depp's various fey mannerisms and dialogue may be enticing for some kids to imitate.

If you're still concerned about the film and its appropriateness for yourself or anyone else in your home who may be interested in seeing it, we suggest that you take a closer look at our detailed listings for more specific information regarding the film's content.

For those concerned with bright flashes of light on the screen, there are flashes of lightning at various points in the film.

For those prone to visually induced motion sickness, there's a scene where Will and Norrington have a swordfight on a large mill wheel that's broken free and is rolling across the ground. We then see views from on and inside that wheel (that shows the ground going around, thus possibly causing some motion sickness in susceptible viewers).

ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE
# We see a drunken sailor with a bottle of rum singing several lines about what he's carrying.
# Lord Beckett pours and offers a drink to Will (who doesn't take it) and we then see Lord Beckett holding his own from which he takes a sip.
# Jack holds up an empty bottle and wonders why the rum is always gone. When he goes looking for some, he runs into the barnacled-covered Bootstrap Bill and wonders if this is a dream, but then says it isn't as there'd be rum. Bootstrap Bill then offers him some and Jack has to pry the encrusted bottle from his crusty hand. Bootstrap Bill then has some as well.
# We see many drunken people in a port, including Norrington (who later vomits), and there's more drinking during a bar brawl.
# When Jack recognizes Elizabeth he says, "Hide the rum" (based on her drinking in the first film).
# Jack shares his bottle of rum with Elizabeth.
# The crew assembles cases of gunpowder and rum to be used (in an explosive manner) against the giant octopus.
# Various people raise their glass to toast Jack.

BLOOD/GORE
# Throughout the film, we see miscellaneous characters who have various bloody scrapes and such on various parts of their bodies.
# We see a black bird of some sort pluck out a man's eyeball, while another man has blood on him and various casket are heaved out into the water.
# Having just emerged from a floating casket, Jack uses a human leg bone as a paddle to get to his ship (played for comedy).
# Bootstrap Bill is all wet, has bugs of some sort crawling along him, and has barnacles and such growing from his face.
# Bootstrap Bill grabs Jack's hand and causes part of his palm to disintegrate into a growing black mess (that Jack quickly wraps in fabric). We later see the blackish growth on his palm that causes others to react in a superstitious way.
# We see various human skulls behind Jack as tribal decorations of sorts.
# Some tribesmen have small sticks through the skin in their faces as decorations.
# Various characters have rotten or otherwise bad looking teeth.
# While acting as the leader of a primitive tribe, Jack wears what appears to be a necklace of severed toes. He takes one of them, bites off part of the toenail, and then spits it out.
# Will and others learn that the round cages they're in are made of human bones.
# Ragetti is seen with an empty eye socket before getting a fake eyeball back in there.
# We see some eyeballs in a jar in Tia's abode.
# Will arrives at a shipwreck and battles members of Jones's crew with his sword, striking many of them (even spilling one's gut of dead fish), but none are harmed since they're all ghostly beings.
# We see a brief view of Will's back that's covered with bloody lash marks.
# A character embedded in a wall of Davy Jones's ship comes to life and partially pulls away from that wall, resulting in just the front of his face and torso being out, while the rest is still stuck in the wall (no blood, but the sight might be unsettling as he interacts with others before going back into the wall).
# Norrington vomits several times (seen and heard).
# Jack throws a coconut that hits one of Davy Jones's crewmembers, knocking his head (that's in a huge hermit crab's shell) from his body (played for laughs and without any real gore). Later, we see that body holding the severed head (that's still alive in the shell).
# We see Davy Jones's still beating but somewhat crusty heart in a treasure chest.
# The large octopus attacks Jack's ship, snatching away people until Will gives the order to fire their cannons that wound many of the octopus's tentacles (with bloody results) making it let go, but only for a moment. It then returns, but moments later Jack fires a shot into a cargo net holding cases of gunpowder and rum that explode upon impact and rip up the octopus's tentacles (with bloody/gory results).

DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE
# Jack is only looking out for himself and doesn't really care about the others (at least until the very end), and even hits on Elizabeth despite knowing she's engaged to Will.
# Davy Jones and his minions obviously have bad attitudes for their actions and desires.
# Pintel and Ragetti are lowlifes only looking out for themselves in various ways, including trying to steal Davy Jones's locker.
# Lord Beckett imprisons Will and Elizabeth to coerce the former to find Jack and his compass, with the offer of freeing Elizabeth from prison if he can do so.
# Although presented playfully, some viewers might be offended by Jack's stereotypical "jungle talk" gibberish to some natives.

FRIGHTENING SCENES
# Scenes listed under "Violence," "Blood/Gore" and "Jump Scenes" may be unsettling, suspenseful, or scary to younger viewers and/or those with low tolerance levels for such material (but older kids will probably find all of it "cool").
# Similarly, the appearance of some of the ghostly and/or monstrous characters, including Davy Jones (and his tentacle-covered face and large crab claw "hand"), his minions (in various stages of fish or crustacean transformation), Bootstrap Bill (with barnacles on his face) and the giant octopus monster may be unsettling or scary to younger kids.
# We suddenly but briefly see a skeletal monkey ghost that's alive on the ship.
# A giant octopus (as big as a boat) yanks a ship down under the water with its tentacles, presumably killing those onboard.
# We see various human skulls behind Jack as tribal decorations of sorts.
# Realizing the tribe that's revering him as a god are about to eat him (to free the godly spirit from his body), Jack takes off running while they're distracted. This is all played for comedy, but they do capture and then have him tied to a spit above the makings of a large bonfire. When they're distracted again, a torch is dropped but bits of flame eventually ignite the bonfire and Jack has to get himself out of there before he's cooked alive (he does).
# Will, Gibbs and others find themselves suspended over a ravine in a large, round cage (alongside others in the same situation and locale). Both start swinging their cages back and forth in the ravine, trying to snag vines on the side with which they'll then use to climb out. But a guard on a bridge above them then shows up, causing Will's group to freeze, but the other continues. Yet, one of its members inadvertently picks up a snake, panics and their group comes loose from the wall, with their cage then ripping from its line and they all plummet toward the bottom of the ravine (we don't see the impact, although they're all presumably killed).
# Will and his group then manage to get their round cage up to the top of the ravine, but various tribesmen chase them from there, with the men inside the cage rolling it like a ball trying to escape. They then lift it up (still inside it) and run for the same reason, but end up falling into a body of water under which they swim as tribesmen shoot arrows at them (none are hit).
# While tied to a pole, Jack pierces a coconut with the tip of that pole and then flings it at a tribesman (who catches it). Several tribesmen then throw large pieces of fruit or something similar that pierce both ends of that pole (making it look like a shish kabob). Jack then manages to flee, doing an impromptu pole vault of sorts with that pole, ending up on the other side of a ravine from them. But the "fruit" on the pole leaves him unbalanced and he falls backwards, with the pole ending up stuck between the sides of the ravine and him unraveling downward like a one-way yoyo from it. He then breaks free from that, but ends up crashing through various levels of wooden suspension bridges before landing hard on the ground below. The pole and those various pieces of fruit then nearly land on him, but he's otherwise okay).
# Jack runs along the shore with the tribesmen in hot pursuit, all as others hurry to launch his beached ship. When he and the others elude the tribesmen, the latter spot a dog on the beach and give chase to it (played for comedy).
# Will arrives at a shipwreck and finds some dead people there (including one who appears to have a "blank" face (just skin, but no eyes, etc. but the view is split-second so it was hard to tell what we're seeing). Various members of Davy Jones's undead crew then come out of the woodwork and Will battles them with his sword (they try to get him with various weapons, including an old ball and chain type one), striking many of them (even spilling one's gut of dead fish), but none are harmed since they're all ghostly beings. One eventually strikes Will on the head, knocking him unconscious.
# Davy Jones holds one captured sailor around the neck with his huge claw "hand," with his minion then slicing the man's throat (no actual impact or blood/gore although we see the motion) before throwing his body overboard.
# Davy Jones gives Jack three days to deliver 100 souls to him.
# Bootstrap Bill is forced by Davy Jones to lash Will (who turns out to be his son). We see the motion as well as Will wincing, but don't see the impact. Moments later, however, we see a brief view of Will's back that's covered with bloody lash marks.
# A character embedded in a wall of Davy Jones's ship comes to life and partially pulls away from that wall, resulting in just the front of his face and torso being out, while the rest is still stuck in the wall (no blood, but the sight might be unsettling as he interacts with others before going back into the wall).
# Will and Bootstrap Bill compete against Davy Jones in a game of chance (using dice) where if Will or Bootstrap Bill lose, Davy Jones will have their souls forever.
# Will sneaks into Davy Jones's chamber while the latter sleeps at his organ. He wants the key Davy Jones possesses, and must work his hand through Davy Jones's various facial tentacles, all while trying to avoid waking him up (a brief organ blast does just that, but Davy Jones then falls back asleep).
# As the large octopus prepares to attack their ship, Will nearly falls from the top of the mast. The octopus then attacks the ship, causing structural damage while snatching up various men (and Will falls from one sail to the next, using his knife to cut into the second to slow his descent). The sailors shoot at the octopus and strike at it with various objects, but it eventually breaks the ship in two and drags it down into the water (presumably killing many onboard, but Will survives).
# Davy Jones's crew kills several human sailors (we see them raise axes and such, but don't see the actual impact).
# Davy Jones's crew comes after Elizabeth, Pintel, and Ragetti as the latter try to escape with Davy Jones's unearthed chest (and Elizabeth battles them with her sword).
# The large octopus attacks Jack's ship, snatching away people until Will gives the order to fire their cannons that wound many of the octopus's tentacles (with bloody results) making it let go, but only for a moment. It then returns, blasting its tentacles inside and onboard the ship, causing lots of damage while snatching up various people. That includes grabbing Elizabeth by the ankle and dragging her away until Ragetti severs that tentacle with an ax. Jack then fires a shot into a cargo net holding cases of gunpowder and rum that explode upon impact and rip up the octopus's tentacles (with bloody/gory results).
# As Jack tries to squeeze his hand out of a shackle, we see the enormous octopus's body coming up behind him, opening its huge mouth (and showing its teeth, etc.). It then blows all sorts of goo over Jack when then grabs his sword and charges toward the mouth (we then see the octopus pulling the ship down into the sea, but we don't know Jack's fate).

GUNS/WEAPONS
# Muskets/Rifles/Swords/Knives/Cannons/Spears/Darts/Arrows/Axes: Carried and/or used to threaten wound or kill other characters (many of them of the undead variety). See "Violence" for details.

IMITATIVE BEHAVIOR
# Phrases: "He's acting strange...er," "For the love of mother and child," "Toot-sweet," "Oh bugger," "Savvy," "A pair of supernatural goats," "It's my front I'm worried about" (said after someone says "Watch your back"), "Bloody," "I don't give a *** rat's" (said drunkenly), "I am the sea," "A marry-age" (marriage), "Do tell, deary," "How did this get all screwy?" "Oh, shut it," "You're mad," "Hey fish face," "You slimy git," "Hello beasty" and "Damn you."
# All of the fighting, other stunts and Jack's mannerisms, etc. may be enticing for some kids to imitate.
# Jack has what look like tattoos on his arms (and is seen with tribal paintings of eyeballs on his face and eyelids in one scene).
# Bootstrap Bill eats a small, live crab.
# Some tribesmen have small sticks through the skin in their faces as decorations.
# Jack has some gold teeth.

JUMP SCENES
# A tribesman suddenly emerges from a wall.
# We suddenly but briefly see a skeletal monkey ghost that's alive on the ship.

MUSIC (SCARY/TENSE)
# An extreme amount of action-oriented, suspenseful and some ominous music plays in the film.

MUSIC (INAPPROPRIATE)
# We see a drunken sailor with a bottle of rum singing several lines about what he's carrying.

PROFANITY
# At least 7 uses of bugger, 2 damns and 1 ***.

SEX/NUDITY
# Elizabeth shows varying amounts of cleavage (sometimes a lot) in various outfits during the movie.
# When Will says he'll return from his forced expedition and then have Elizabeth properly, she suggestively says that if not for the bars (behind which she's jailed), she would have had him already (a possible sexual connotation and/or just meaning they'd be married by now).
# What appear to be two hookers show a lot of cleavage.
# We see various shirtless male tribesmen.
# Jack makes a gesture and articulates in tribal gibberish what seems to be the command to castrate Will, but that doesn't occur (and it's played for comedy).
# Elizabeth angrily tells Lord Beckett that he robbed her of her wedding night with Will (by arresting them before they got married).
# While trapped in a round cage made of human bones (and needing to run away in it with their feet sticking out), Gibbs tells the others to lift it like a lady's skirt (but that's presumably meaning like a woman would to herself to hurry along).
# Having found Elizabeth's dress (she's now in disguise as a sailor), some men think it's the haunted apparel of a woman who died as a virgin. Their captain realizes it's a woman's clothing and tells the men to find her, adding the enticement that she's probably naked (thus exciting them for their search).
# When Jack and Will go to see a voodoo priestess (Tia Dalma), she calls Will by his name. He then asks if she knows him, she suggestively says he wants to know her (followed by another related line), with Jack then dejectedly chiming in that he thought he knew her (with the word "knew" possibly used as a sexual connotation during all of that).
# Tia shows some cleavage.
# While still dressed as a male sailor, Elizabeth announces that she's in love with one man (meaning Will). Not yet recognizing her, Jack nervously says his only love is the sea (thinking the "male" sailor is coming on to him).
# There's what seems like some sexual innuendo between Jack and Elizabeth, as both want something from the other (hers not being sexual in nature). He tells her to persuade him for what she wants and she suggestively states that Will taught her how to handle a "sword."
# As Jack comes on to Elizabeth, she playfully asks why his compass doesn't work (meaning the real thing, but possibly dropping some innuendo), followed by him saying his compass works just fine. She then says (about success) that he's going to want to know what it tastes like, with him suggestively replying that he does want to know that (again, more possible innuendo). Later, as Elizabeth sits on the ground in frustration regarding Jack's constantly moving compass, she says that it doesn't show what you want. Jack says that it does, adding, "You're sitting on it" (another possible double entendre, meaning him and her butt as well as her sitting on the ground above a buried chest).
# Elizabeth passionately kisses Jack (thus making Will jealous), but only does so in order to distract Jack while shackling him to the ship.

SMOKING
# Davy Jones smokes a pipe in one scene.

TENSE FAMILY SCENES
# Bootstrap Bill is forced by Davy Jones to lash Will (who turns out to be his son). We see the motion as well as Will wincing, but don't see the impact. Moments later, however, we see a brief view of Will's back that's covered with bloody lash marks.

TOPICS TO TALK ABOUT
# Pirates (of old and contemporary ones, and how they're viewed differently -- with the former being somewhat romanticized).
# The East India Company.
# Cannibals.
# The legend of Davy Jones and his "locker."
# When two sailors struggle over a dress, their captain says they can share it and wear it one at a time, but they're not interested in that, as they think it's haunted.
# Voodoo.

VIOLENCE
# We see a black bird of some sort pluck out a man's eyeball.
# A large black bird lands on a floating casket and begins pecking at it. A sudden gunshot from inside it blasts the bird up into the air (it then lands in the water, all played for laughs as it's Jack coming out from the casket, very much alive).
# A giant octopus (as big as a boat) yanks a ship down under the water with its tentacles, presumably killing those onboard.
# A hooker gives a message to Will to deliver to Jack and does so by slapping him hard on the face.
# Will is snared by a foot trap that then zips him up into the air upside down. He tries to fend off various tribesmen with his sword, but one blows a dart into him, rendering him unconscious. The next thing we see is him tied by his hands and feet to a pole by which he's carried through the village.
# A man pulls a long knife from a man he's just stabbed and killed. He then wipes the knife clean, but we don't see any of the blood. He then pushes Weatherby back against a carriage.
# Elizabeth holds a musket to Lord Beckett's face and then cocks it under his chin to make him sign some papers.
# A large wave knocks Pintel and Ragetti from their rowboat on the shoreline, but they're okay.
# One man bites another man's finger or hand.
# Will, Gibbs and others find themselves suspended over a ravine in a large, round cage (alongside others in the same situation and locale). The other cage comes loose from its line and they all plummet toward the bottom of the ravine (we don't see the impact, although they're all presumably killed).
# Will and his group then end up falling into a body of water under which they swim as tribesmen shoot arrows at them (none are hit).
# While Jack is tied to a pole, some tribesmen throw large pieces of fruit or something similar that pierce both ends of that pole (making it look like a shish kabob). Jack then manages to flee, but ends up stuck between the sides of a ravine while still tied to that pole. He then breaks free from that, but ends up crashing through various levels of wooden suspension bridges before landing hard on the ground below. The pole and those various pieces of fruit then nearly land on him, but he's otherwise okay).
# Will holds a knife to Jack.
# Jack shoots a ghostly monkey to prove that it's undead (and it's not harmed).
# Norrington overturns a table, knocking Gibbs to the floor and then aims his musket (while intoxicated) at Jack who tries to sneak away.
# A bar brawl breaks out among drunken men in a port bar, with lots of punching, some hitting with bottles (including Elizabeth to one), some sword fighting (Elizabeth vs. others), and some people being tossed down from the second floor to the first. During this, Jack accidentally knocks a man from the second to first floor, while two other men toss a third in the same direction (we don't see the impact).
# A roped cannon slips from Will's grip and lands on some of Davy Jones's crew (but they're undead, so they're not permanently harmed).
# Bootstrap Bill is forced by Davy Jones to lash Will (who turns out to be his son). We see the motion as well as Will wincing, but don't see the impact. Moments later, however, we see a brief view of Will's back that's covered with bloody lash marks. Davy Jones's crew then tosses Will down from one part of the ship to another.
# Davy Jones grabs Bootstrap Bill around the neck with his clawed "hand."
# One of Davy Jones's crewmembers whips others to make them turn a large wheel to unleash and/or summon the huge attack octopus (we later see this happening again).
# Will, Jack and Norrington get into a three-way swordfight (played lightly on the part of the film), with Elizabeth being mad at all of them and throwing rocks or something similar at them. During this fighting (that occurs in various locations), Norrington knocks Will down, later pushes him to the ground and kicks sand in his face, and Jack kicks Norrington back to a wall, but he then grabs Jack's foot and trips him, etc.).
# Will and Norrington end up continuing their swordfight on a large mill wheel that breaks free and starts rolling across the ground. At the same time, Jack falls into an open grave and then stands up only to be lifting out of it by the slowly rolling wheel (and he's then briefly knocked out by it and falls aside).
# Davy Jones's crew comes after Elizabeth, Pintel and Ragetti as the latter try to escape with Davy Jones's unearthed chest (and Elizabeth battles them with her sword).
# Jack throws a coconut that hits one of Davy Jones's crewmembers, knocking his head (that's in a huge hermit crab's shell) from his body (played for laughs and without any real gore). Later, we see that body holding the severed head (that's still alive in the shell).
# Jack uses an oar to defend himself from one of Davy Jones's crewmembers armed with a sword.
# There's a great deal of sword fighting between various people and Davy Jones's crewmembers, during which Jack hits Will on the head with an oar.
# Jack accidentally falls from one ship deck to another, but is okay (played for laughs).
# Davy Jones's ship fires cannons at Jack's, causing damage and knocking at least one sailor overboard, but Jack's ship manages to outrun their heavily armed opponent.
# The giant octopus yanks a ship under the sea, taking a pirate along with it, but we don't know his fate.
