Be prepared for some times when you think "what the hell am I doing, and why?" but make sure you make the effort to get through these low spots as all the joy and love a child will provide is worth every moment of hard work. Spend as much time as you can with the baby, get involved in every way and enjoy it.

first off congratulations!! you will now be tired and skint for the rest of your life!! lol

as a mum i can tell you to be understanding towards the mummy!! try and let her have an hours kip or take turns with night feeding etc and you will all be happier

everyone always asks the new mum how she's doing and forget that you dads are going through it all too, more often than not having to do overtime at work... so yes it may be daunting but the first smiles, etc are all worth it beleive me

remember there is no manual for a child, as long as you love it and are there for it you can do no wrong....go with your instincts im sure you dads have parental instincts too...
ps sorry for saying it, you didnt specify boy or girl!!

good luck!!!

Help with the baby as much as possible, but don't interfere with momma-baby time. Pamper mom, watch the baby so she can take a long tub bath, or nap, or just be alone for a while. Cook her dinner and make her feel special. When she is able, have a family member or good friend come stay with the baby and take her out to a VERY NICE dinner!

Invest in the book Babywise. You can find it in most bookstores. Worth every penny. I am a father of three, and that book put a lot of ideas on paper and helped my wife and me to be in charge of the house instead of the baby being in charge. All three of mine were sleping through the night by 4-6 weeks because we practiced what the book offered. God bless you as you start the adventure of fatherhood!!!

Don't have daughters. In a few years they will gang up with your partner and sport will be banned from the T.V.
Just relax and try support your family the best way you can. Good luck on dipping your toe in the gene pool.

Spend as much time as you can with your child when they're young, they grow up fast. The teen years will be difficult, especially if you have a daughter (I use to tell my ex that I didn't grow up as a teenage girl and never could understand her). Best of luck to you, enjoy.
