Performance = power:weight.
Less weight, same power = better performance.
Taking stuff out is always cheaper than adding things - make it lighter.
When did you last change the air filter? If it's clogged it'll be running rich which won't help.
New injectors alone probably won't help too much, as you'll then have to increase airflow to get the mixture right, then upgrade the exhaust to get rid of the burn gas....
Given the age of it, I'm not sure there's much you can do.

It's an old diseasel. You're pretty much stuck with it as it is. If you want a faster car, buy a faster car. For what it'll cost to get more out of the Pug, it makes more sense, and you probably haven't given a thought to the suspension and brakes, which are probably at their limits with the power it's got.

anything you can do to either .. air in.. air out.. fuel in, will increase performance... buy a better air filter.. k&n... bigger exhaust... if it was a petrol.. you could have used shell optimax.. that gives much better performance.. also, keep you engine/injectors spotlessly clean by buying a diesel engine cleaner additive... dont need to do spark plugs.. as diesels dont have them....

go to the junk yard and try to find a D19T engine, it was made for volvo, but will fit. It is turbo, but when you change the engine, clean out the turbo. Or you could change your injectors, and change your exaust.
