Conservatives, including myself, continue to vote Republican, but are let down time after time with the conservatives in office going Left on all their campaign promises until election year, when they bring up a hot button issue to energize their base.

We have a perfect example of this phenomenon here in Pennsylvania, in the person of Sen. Arlen Specter. He had a tough fight in the '04 primary against Pat Toomey, who is more conservative. It got so tough for Specter that President Bush and Sen. Santorum (who oughta know better) had to come around the state a few dozen times to campaign for him. Despite this, Toomey still made it very close, getting over 49% of the vote. But Specter still won, giving us the choice in November between a center-left Republican and a leftist Democrat. If you're conservative, who are you going to vote for? So I, like many other conservatives, held my nose and reelected Specter. I felt filthy as I stepped out of the booth, but I would have felt even filthier had Hoeffel won because I didn't vote for Specter.

The short version: Who else are you going to vote for? If you can't oust them in the primary, you're stuck.

I think conservatives are forced to vote Republican since they are Republicans. You are not conservative and a democrat. That is what makes the difference. I do not really know what you are mentioning when you talk about them going left. If they do, vote them out in the primary. Rock the Vote.

I WONDER IF ANY OF YOU REALIZE THAT BUSH AND KERRY ARE TRUE BLOOD COUSINS. THEY ARE ONLY TRYING TO PUSH THEIR AGENDA FORWARD NO MATTER WHO IS IN OFFICE. THEY ARE WORKING FOR THE RICH TYCOONS OF THE WORLD LIKE ROTHSCHILD. They are the ones who created the Trilateral Commission back in the late 70's early 80's. (look it UP) I am what I have coined now as a "Constitutionalists" meaning a man or woman that is for the preservation of the Constitution of the United States when it was originally written.

It's the lesser of two evils. Until we get a united front of Conservatives, and get ourselves a solid candidate like another Reagan, we're stuck voting against the liberals.

I see the era of a new political party.... An anti-liberal party that is sick of spineless so called conservatives that do not want to stand up for what is right in this great country... we could call it Hannityans... Sean Hannity for President!

Can youy imagine what things would be like of you voted for the "other party" ? Republicans are the conservative party. Unfortunately, your question and other comments are true - but that's politics.

the 1st problem is the term conservative

it can mean many different things

people who break down the polulace into "conservatives" and "liberals" are oversimplifying the many different viewpoints and ideas in and about our society, they are not seeing things correctly

quit using these terms, which are mostly just used as meaningless insulting labels, and things might make more sense to you

Dem leaders tell quite vast lies and then attempt to shield them. Repub leaders supply their surprising shot at an trustworthy answer, which sometime later seems became in preserving with invalid documents. So then the liberals call the repubs liars. this is in simple terms yet another liberal lie.

Well, if you look at the official party platform, it is very much in line with conservative values, it's just that too often we lack leadership that sticks to the platform.
