from what I hear, new prisoners are called fish because they are an easy catch, meaning that they are esily influenced to do things that they wouldn't do if they weren't in prison. They are also given a bag of supplies called a fish kit and a held in an area called fish row.

Coz the ppl in prison are the 'sharks' who rule the place and when the new ppl come, they are the small 'fishes' that the sharks can eat..( not literally eating, I mean intimidate them and get them to obey u)

because prisons are big churches and the prisoners are like Jesus they are fishers of men. the prisoners can' t wait to tell the new prisioners about the bible and all of the joy that God brings them and how now they get to spend all day praying and singing unto the Lord. OKAY i am probably wrong on all counts.

I have never in my life have ever heard the term fish to mean a new person in jail and I did quite a bit of time. The only time i've heard it has been in movies and T.V.
