I think it depends how old you are and when and where you went to school. It's a known fact through testing and SAT's tjhat illiteracy and improper use of English has become prevalent in our nation in the last 10-20 years.

This is not to say that ALL people who have graduated since then have a problem; However, this is a major problem than it has ever been. If you went to school for instance, in the 70's, Grammar, (correct English usage), Spelling and Reading were emphasized more so than Mathematics and Science.
English and proper usage of it, including punctuation, were DRIVEN into students.

People who do not understand this problem do not realize that there are many factors to take into consideration. Not all school districts are the same across the country. Slower students do not get the help they need. It depends what type of culture you were exposed to growing up. It could just be how much time you studied and did your homework.

I can see that you have problems expressing yourself because of the paragraphs that you write. But don't give up; word games like Scrabble and studying at a third or fourth grade level and work up, will surely help you.

You can take remedial Reading, English and Writing courses in most community colleges around the country that might help you.

Stay with it, you'll improve. Forget what people say and don't take it to heart. they don't know you !

Because language is the primary medium through which we all communicate with each other, so a grasp of it is more essential to interaction than a facility with math or a knowledge of science.

Consider this: most of us assume, whether consciously or not, that a foreigner who doesn't speak English properly must not be very intelligent (that is, until we're proven wrong). A person could be fluent in twelve languages, but if he can't address me cogently in a language that I myself understand, I automatically tend to treat him as an inferior. It's not a good impulse, but it's perfectly natural. English is so basic to the way I deal with the world that those who are deficient in it seem to merit my dismissal.

One bit of advice: be clear in your own mind about what you want to say, and when you know you've said it, stop writing. Your question is repetitive and overlong; it seems more like a rant than a query. Did you try reading it aloud to yourself? Some of the more obvious mistakes might leap out at you that way.

Good luck.

I am a writer, but I can't spell or punctuate or even know my nouns. To me it doesn't make sense. But I can write poetry that would make one feel whatever I am trying to relay. I was told that I couldn't be a author because I can't correct my work. I talked with an Editor and he said that's what his job is for to correct written work.

What are editor's paid for? Correcting mistakes that are in any written pieces.

There are jobs for everyone. So keep the ink within your pen flowing.
