Yes, it is absolutely possible. However, the likelihood depends on your local/state board of education, and probably the demand for teachers in your area. More than likely, after getting your degree, you would have to have your application for teaching licensure approved by the state board of education.
I don't know about the situation in MI, but I live in Tennessee and there is a teacher shortage here so I think that they would allow it. It really depends on the individual circumstances, but if you have proven yourself to be a responsible adult, then I think they would be willing to work with you on this issue. It's also a plus that your felony charges weren't violent in nature.
Good luck!!!

It's still possible but you need to look at the Education Code/Educator Requirements of Michigan. They must be published somewhere accessible. Perhaps the MI department of education has a website? It varies from state to state but there is sometimes a time limit for the application of non-violent felonies to bar persons from certain fields; eight years may be enough. You may also want to speak to an attorney about getting the felony expunged from your record but answering that question on the application, "have you EVER been convicted of a felony," may still be a moral/ethical dilemma. It all depends on the rules but if educating is your dream, you owe it to yourself to dig hard to find the answer.

Michigan has just released a report that shows people working in school districts that have felony convictions. I think you would be better off trying to teach at the college level. Parents would be concerned about their children being taught by someone who have drug and alcohol convictions on their record. Is it possible for you to apply to have your record expunged. Did you complete your sentance. If you were enrolled in an education program and could show you changed your ways a judge might be willing to expunge your record.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think it's very likely the school board will hire someone with multiple felonies. One is pushing, over three (as it sounds like you have had) has about a snowball's chance in hell. Although, that's just my opinion. Kudos for turning your life around. Maybe if you can really demonstrate that, you'll have a better chance. Try volunteering, or teaching kid's academies. Start out small, and demonstrate a new commitment to giving back to the community, and you should be able to greatly increase your odds. Good luck!

I don't know about your state, but in South Carolina, you can not have a felony or drug charge against you to be able to work with children at the state or county level. If you have minor offenses and you tell them the truth, you can still get into the school district, but they will keep an eye on you for at least a year. Good luck in your endeavor, and good for you for the change in your life!! :)

If you have a clean record and have been an upstanding citizen for 8 years you should be able to teach. Contact the state commission that handles teacher certification and ask them. It's different in each state. See if you can get your criminal records sealed. See a lawyer for this.

It depends on the state. You can find out by calling your State Assemblyman's office. But don't get your hopes up.
