If you do not have a router, the best alternative is a cross over cable. A cross over looks like a standard Cat5 Lan cable, except the send and receive wires are reversed at one end. You can buy them at Best Buy, Walmart, etc.

Hook the two computers together.
Go into My Network Places on the first computer, right-click on the icon or listing for you Network Card (may say Local Area Connection) and choose Properties. Find and highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and select properties.
Put in the following Using the following IP information:
IP Address 192.168.0.100
Subnet Mas: 255.255.255.0
Default Gatway: 192.168.0.101.

Do the same to the other PC only switch the IP address and Default Gateway.

Yes, you can, but purchasing a jump drive is the cheaper route to take. USB cables are a bit high in price. You can also use a network cable. Only condition for the network cable is that it has to be a cross-over or flip-flop cable. They're usually red or have a reb band around them.

heres how i do that
I have 3 computers with usb ports I use a 256 MB jump drive to move wav. files which are huge between those computers.
thats the cheapest way wallmart sells these usb 256MB 20 dollars

I don't think you can get usb with the right connectors


use a lan cable, it's much easier and cheaper


if you on XP there is a wizard to do it for you
