Safety...it intimidates anyone who might want to mess with them.
Companionship, dog lovers are everywhere, including small apartments.
I think it's wrong to restrict a large animal like that, though.

That same question has crossed my mind many times. Honestly, it's crazy! I live in NYC, and I see people walking around with these massive animals, and I think to myself, where in the world do these people live?! Because I know how expensive city rent is, and there is NO WAY they have an apartment that is even close to big enough for some of those large dogs. It is truly unfair to the animal I think, to live in such an environment. Not to mention the smell in the apartment, and the size of the dogs you know what that you have to pick up after. YUK!

If people that lived in apartments were really smart they'd own houses instead of throwing away that money every month.
Stupid people would of course get a huge dog, since they can't afford to scrape together the money for a downpayment on a house, they buy a big dog to feed and pay the vet bills for instead.

people in small apartments are usually lonely (no offense to anyone) so they make friends with animals and people on the computer and the bigger the better

I would say because they like large dog breeds (like me, little dogs annoy me way too much) and they either can't afford a bigger place, or don't feel that they need anything bigger and are comfortable where they are at.

it's a known fact that they love the smell of huge craps on their carpets in the morning.
9/10 prefer larger dumpings.

well i live in an apartment in manhattan with my parents and two brothers and we have a big dog and its not that bad

no common sense and no respect for a large dog's need to run around in a yard. large dogs shouldn't be cooped up!
