My husband thinks its too old. But I think it's cute. Is it coming around? It was my great-grandmother's name.

ESTHER
Gender: Feminine

Usage: English, Jewish, French, Biblical

Other Scripts: אֶסְתֵר (Hebrew)

Pronounced: ES-tur (English), es-TER (French) [key]

Possibly means "star" in Persian. Alternatively it could be a Hebrew form of ISHTAR, the name of a Persian goddess. The Book of Esther in the Old Testament tells of Queen Esther, the Jewish wife of the king of Persia, who saves many Jews from persecution.

That is that name info just for you from me... I think that a great name, cute and also has a deep and good meaning...

Happy choosing and take care...

Deedee

It's not exactly too old, in that some times a name or more makes a come back. I think it's too hard to pronounce. I could give you some ideas, if you want. But be sure to give baby, a middle name!

I think it's a slightly outdated name. But if you want to use it, try giving her a more common middle name so she can decide what she wants to go by when she's older.
Esther Rose or something cute and pretty =)

Honestly I think it's cute you want to name her after your Gram, but Esther is a very old name. But you name your baby whatever you want. Maybe you can call her Essie or something cute. Just name her whatever you want.

I don't mean to be rude but I also think it sounds old and you don't want to have a daughter to grow up saying I hate my name... I know a lot of young women and men that are like that... Go with something new... Doesn't have to be simple either but don't keep it old fashioned... The legacy will live on through your last name anyway!!!

i like this name and i do think this is an acceptable name for a baby girl; it is also very neat that you would be naming her after your great-grandmother. as a matter of fact, my cousin's daughter is named is esther and we all call her essie! good luck! :)

I think it's an old name, too. But a lot of old names are coming back now.
