Well, THIS is precisely why we have three independent government branches. Yes, they can and do influence one another, but they truly are separate.

It's really unfortunate, IMO, that people who are trying to "fight the power" are being called "traitors" by Bush loyalists. You're either a "patriot" or a "traitor" in their book. Talk about "spin doctoring"! Bush may have attempted to load the Supreme Court with his little toadies, but there are some very intelligent people there who are not afraid to uphold the Constitution--especially Bush's own appointee, Roberts.

And it's really a shame that NO MATTER WHAT WE DO, the terrorists "win" in one way or another. If we do nothing, then they figure that we're weak, and they can keep attacking us. And if we fight them, then we're the bullies. And, not only are we bullies, but we lose the very freedoms that make this country worthwhile. It's a true lose/lose situation.

Funny...you're assuming that Americans actually agree with the war and Iraq and everything that Bush does. But about the Patriot Act...stop being ignorant and consider what we were going through...September 11 just happened and the entire country was furious at Arabs everywhere (sorry for the stereotype but that's the truth), and everyone in America was patriotic and wanted to do whatever they could to help America out, in this case it is signing the "Patriot Act"

Many Americans today do not deserve anything--one of our big problems today as I see it. We have become a selfish nation with so many good things and we continue to abuse our priveleges instead of being grateful for all we have. Times were better when more people had things they had to struggle to get and worked together. Now with all the modern inventions we have become very self-sufficient and for the most part quite arrogant. Because we have had so much we expect even more.

If our elected officials seem underhanded or not straightforward perhaps more of us need to step up and do something about it rather than just criticize. What would we do if we were in their shoes?

When are people going to take the time to find a dictionary and look up the definition of "lie"? And what freedoms have you lost from the Patriot Act? Not what Air America tells you but real life examples of lost freedoms. What color is the sky in your world?

i don't know the position are from yet the position i'm its gotten to the point the position people scream conspiracy at each tiny element. You cant do some thing without listening to a lecture. people have lost their freedom, the authorities hasn't taken it away although. those who sit there and are available to a call others because they don't consider what they say have taken their own freedom from themselves. certain questioning the authorities is nice. searching at issues in this style of way that they could in no way likely be doing some thing good is undesirable.

People don't understand their rights as it is. For example: many think we have not lost rights under the Patriot Act; however, note that your library records may be searched, examined, and red flagged - profiling via choices an individual makes when checking out books. Your right to privacy has been compromised.

As long as Americans as a whole continue to support the Bush regime and continue to be dominated by fear and lies, than yes, we deserve to lose our freedoms. Apathy in politics or supporting demagogues is a terrible crime, often punished by a loss of freedom.

No. We pay taxes and unless they amend the constitution taking those freedoms away, it aint happening. It takes all three parts of governement for Americans to lose their freedom- legislative, judicial, and executive. We didnt vote for a king, we voted for a president.

If they're not willing to fight to keep their freedom, then yes they deserve to lose it.
Plus we already live in a police state, if you haven't noticed most police Dept. have just as much military hardware as the military does. And just like in Russia the govt. encourages you to inform on your family and neighbors, gotta get that reward money.
