Yes...Hang ceiling first, cutting tight around edges. Hang walls next laying the sheets horizontally. Use a special tip for your drill that won't allow you to overdrive your screws. Keep wall sheets 3/4" off floor, then hang the top sheet. Anyone can hang rock well, with a little patience, and a lot of help. Don't ask me to float it...that's an art.

The best way to hang drywall is to do the ceilings first and then the walls. this way the edges of the wall panels will help to hold up the ceiling drywall along where the wall and ceiling meet.

it's best to install drywall on the wall on its side (finished edges on their side) so that the seam is visible at the height where a chair rail might go. if you install the drywall with the rough edges to the ceiling, you will have joints every 4' and when the studs start to dry and cause nail pops, it will look terrible. Also, you will use less drywall because you can then buy 10'-12' lengths of drywall to get more coverage on your wall providing you can get the sheet size into the room you're finishing.

when mudding, don't put too much on at first. it's better to do a few pass than to try and sand the excess off - you will be forever and it will create a dust bowl in your house.

If it is a small job, you would be money and time ahead to go find an area where new houses are being built and find the drywall guys. We, I mean they love side jobs and we can do in an hour or so what could take you a day or better. The better the hanging job, the better the final results. I make thousands of dollars a year repairing homeowners attempts at drywall and I assure you that every single time, it would have been cheaper for the homeowner to pay to have it done right the first time. I'm sure you could finish it yourself with a little research and a lot of sandpaper. LOL

if you are not mudding the drywall yourself than have the people who are finishing the drywall do it because they are very particular and in the long run it will most likely cost you less for them to do it properly rather than charge you extra for fixing a mess!
