If society had no laws then there would be no structure and there would be anarchy with every man doing as he pleases. That is not to say that all laws are just and fair, but what is the alternative. As long as we can live in a reflective society where we can not only debate issues, but respect the differences of our fellow man without infringing on our social rights then there is always hope we might find Utopia!!

Take a look at Nazi Germany for example. In 1933 Hitler BECAME the law. From that moment on the citizens lost their rights and were plunged into a madness of his and his cronies making.
Without law nobody would know where they stood with regard to their rights and obligations. The law of the jungle would prevail and there would be chaos.

Law is like discipline and discipline makes the balance in society.
The difference you can compare with Jungle and garden. If you don't apply rules of timely cutting and shaping in your garden then your garden will turn into a jungle very soon.
