Someone suggested that you put the baby in a lightweight sleeper and receiving blanket?!!!?! This is HORRIFYING!!! Never put blankets on a baby less than 6 months old.....all of the SIDS prevention websites will tell you the same thing! As far as the temperatures go that you plan on keeping the AC at, sounds fine. The suggestions is that you keep a room between 75-80 degrees for a newborn. Just please don't let the air blow directly on your baby, and maybe try adding a humidifier :) And congrats :)

As far as I know, there are no issues with using A/C with a newborn. But here is a rule of thumb to use when talking about temperature control for your baby (since you have to wait until they have enough body fat/body mass to thermo-regulate for themselves):
In the winter - 1 layer more than what you're comfortable wearing.
In the summer - 1 layer less than what you're comfortable wearing.
In the fall and spring, and if you're in-doors where the temperature is regulated then they can pretty much wear the same number of layers of clothes that you wear. If your baby's skin is cold, you'll notice a more "veiny" appearance, whereas if he is warm, his/her cheeks and skin will be pink.
As with anything, you just have to keep an eye on your baby and see how he/she is tolerating the environment.

You should probably keep it a little lower than that, actually, because SIDS is connected more to overheated rooms than those that are too cool. It is better for him to be a little too cool than too warm. Also, especially after his body temp becomes more regular in the next week or so, he will feel warmer than you in the same room. Babies just seem to run hotter. But the A/C itself won't hurt him at all; I would avoid using a fan of any kind, just because they can stir up allergens, and I'd get a really good air filter for the A/C, just to keep things as clean as possible. Congrats on the new little one!

It's not a problem, as long as it's not the North Pole in your home, if it gets a little cold for the baby just keep him/her wrapped up or in a nice warm jammy will do the trick. I understand you dont want a hot cranky baby on your hands.

Oh its totally safe..MOf, safer than not running it at all. A good rule of thumb for babies under 6 months is they need one more layer than what you yourself are comfy in. So if you are comfortable in shorts and a tank..then put light weight sleeper and light recieving blanket on baby, he will be perfectly fine.
Congrats on the new bundle of love!!!

Just make sure to keep baby warm enough. If his head or torso feel cool to the touch then he's too cold. Wrap him in a blanket or keep him in a terry sleeper.

I see no problem whatsoever. Just don't put him in the direct path of the AC air. You don't want it blowing directly on the baby. He (or she) will probably be alot more comfy than if you didn't have the AC.

None that I am aware of. Just make sure that you don't have him directly under it or with the cold air hitting directly on his face etc. But, if you're hot they usually are, so he should be fine.
