Yes it is. We have no manufacturing base. The auto industry along with its supporting industries, such as parts manufacturers have declined 30-33%. Gold prices are soaring a sign that the purchasing power of the dollar is dwindling. Stocks are going up, but this is only because it now takes more devalued US dollars to buy the same amount of equity in the publically traded corporations. The FED is printing money at a staggering rate, and raising intrest rates to cover for the increased amount of currency in circulation, as production has not risen to match the increase in dollar volume. The big switch from the petro-dollar to the petro-euro is still in its infacy and will only worsen as more nations start to demand that oil be paid for in gold backed euro's.
And the biggest clue is the price at the pump. Oil effects so many secotrs of our economy we are entering a price adjustment phase. All basic goods that require transportation to reach the market place will get steadily more expensive as retailers adjust for increased energy prices by passing the additional cost on to the consumer.
The media is covering this up in an attempt to keep the struggling economy putting along, but with higher intrest rates we are already seeing record foreclosures. I would say the US is poised at the brink of a depression, yet another reason for Bush to engage in foreign adventurism to distract from the domestic reality of reccession and depression.

If America was in the middle of a recession the media would not be ignoring it. That would be one more thing that the media and liberals could blame on President Bush. America is doing fine. We just need to make sure we work to keep God in America. Without Him it doesn't matter what America is in, we are in bad shape.

good question
many of these people base their answer on what they have been told about how the economy is doing rather than what they feel
there seem to be a lot of people buying and building houses now, that's a sign that things are going well, but they are borrowing more than ever in history to do it, we'll find out later if that was a good idea
I know that my salary is not rising and my bills are getting higher, thats not good
the thing is, the government, the politicians, and those trying to take advantage of you by taking your money are the ones manipulating the statistics, trying to tell you the story which benefits them the most, so I don't put too much faith in what the media, or the government, or the banks, or whoever say about things

That's a good question. When you hear the right talking about how good the economy is, they are talking about corporate profits. Unfortunately, these profits have come at the expense of the working class. These corporations have shucked their pension plans, and foisted the majority of their healthcare costs onto the workers themselves. Meanwhile, energy costs have gone through the roof, and wages are stagnent. I don't think we are technically in a recession yet, but the seeds of economic disaster have certainly been planted.

Unemployment is below 5%,
The economy has grown every quarter for the last few years.
Inflation, even with the high price of oil and precious metals, remains low.
Sure looks like a recession to me.
The only recession I know of in the USA is the decreasing amount of learning going on in our public schools. Which one are you in?

No, it's the other way around, we are in a big economic upturn and politicians and certain media outlets are trying to talk it down and only report the negative.

No, and the media would not ignore something that would make the Bush administration look bad.

You have been in a coma, right? The economy is buzzing along quite well. If it wasn't, the godless liberal alien media would let you know.

No, you can't ignore the truth, the US is running very strong despite gas prices rising, and the trickle down inflation its causing.
