We've all heard that one can hold a lighter to his butt and send out a huge flame if they fart, and even seen this done in movies... but is it really possible?

Yes you can light a fart. There's methane in the fart that ignites.
Sadly, I've done it before in college.
My friends and I were sitting in a dim lit room just chatting until someone had gas. That person was given a lighter and "poof"!
There were some very nice looking ignitions, especially on more forceful farts.
The slow, silent farts would light up the whole seat area....but be careful if you try this because you can get burned!

Not all farts are combustable gases like methane. Probably most farts are not combustable. Certain bacteria will also produce carbon dioxide, which is not flammable.

Yes. Farts are methane, and that's flammable. If you farted continuously for 3 1/2 years, you would have enough of it to fill a bomb.

Yes it is really possible. But you should only do it with some type of clothing on, or you will hurt yourself. The lighted methane gas can bo back up into your rectum and cause some problems.

Farts (flatus) contain various gases. Most are indeed combustable. Don't try this at home, or have lots of water on hand... you can set your clothes on fire. Seen it done

um. my little brother always seems to be the life of the party w/ this trick. he had a little accident when he strained to hard once. so he doesnt do it so much anymore. but it does wk. you can find video clips on www.punchbaby.com , under the sick section.

yes.. it can be done. a fart consists of methane gas which is very flamable.. my kids have friends that have done this. it works..
